Weekend Update 10-29-23

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out with your Weekend Update.  I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

This week we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week by having a Spirt Week.  Red Ribbon Week is the largest drug prevention and awareness program in the nation.  This week we will promote messages of personal responsibility and healthy living.  Each day we will have a theme for students to dress up to show their support for Red Ribbon Week.  The PCS dress code must be followed with the exception of Tuesday (Halloween costumes) and Friday (pajamas).  Please see the link below for full details.

Monday’s theme for Red Ribbon Week is “Saying No to Drugs is ‘Out of this World’” so wear your Star Wars or space themed clothes.  Monday after school we will have ELP Tutoring in the media center from 4:20 until 5:20PM.  Please be sure to pick-up your child in the car circle behind the school.

Tuesday’s theme for Red Ribbon Week is “Drugs are Scary!” so wear your Halloween costume (no masks, no toy weapons, and must be school appropriate).  Tuesday we will again have after school we will have ELP Tutoring in the media center from 4:20 until 5:20PM.

Wednesday’s theme for Red Ribbon Week is “Say ‘Levi-NO-sa’ to Drugs” so wear your Harry Potter gear or Hogwarts colors.  Wednesday we will have before school ELP Tutoring in the media center from 8:20 until 9:20AM.  Please drop off your child in front of the school at the main office.   After school Wednesday we will have Band ELP with Mr. Hojilla in room 2-100 until 5PM.  Also, after school we will have Co-Ed indoor soccer tryouts.  We apologize for the short notice, but this was just introduced by the school district.  Tryouts will be from 4:20 until 5:20PM.  Students will need the normal sports paperwork to tryout (school insurance, physical within the past year, and a participation form).  Students will also need shoes, shin guards, and water.  An indoor soccer tournament game will be played at 5PM on November 8th at Carwise.  Best of luck!

Thursday’s theme for Red Ribbon Week is “Be Kind to Your Mind” so wear RED for Red Ribbon Week.  Thursday we will again have before school ELP Tutoring in the media center from 8:20 until 9:20AM.

Friday’s theme for Red Ribbon Week is “Keep Calm and Avoid Drugs” so wear your school appropriate pajamas.

Parents, a gentle reminder that students should not be on campus earlier than 9:10AM, as this is when supervision begins, unless they are here for ELP or a club.  Additionally, please know that during arrival time and dismissal time the front of the school is for visitor parking and busses.  All car riders need to be dropped off behind the school using the car loop.  The front of the school, the street, and nearby neighborhoods are not appropriate places for drop off and pick up.  I know the car loop does take time, but the safety of our students is more important than saving a few minutes in the car.  Thank you for your support.

Last, below are links for two flyers from our partner the Players Sport Academy (PSA).  Don’t miss out!

Thank you again, Carwise families for your support of Carwise Middle where we are Always Moving Forward.  Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hello Carwise Middle School Families!

We are excited to offer a way to give back to Carwise Middle School!   On 8/30/2023 we will be kicking off an event to help raise funds that will benefit all of our students and staff.  Our Next Level program will help with funding resources to support our Shark Bite reward system school store.

It is going to be AWESOME; we are excited to get started!

A few things to note:

  • This program will be extremely easy for you.  It only requires about 10 minutes of your time.
  • Your students can earn great rewards, just for their effort. No money required!
  • This is an online, donation-based fundraiser, and the email and text message donation requests can go to people you know anywhere in the world.  That means no direct pressure on your shoulders.

Students will be bringing home more information next week after our Launch Party presentation.  Please help your student register and complete the Golden Ticket assignment that very night!  All students who complete the Golden Ticket assignment will receive fun PRIZES and it does not require any money to register.  We will also have awesome drawings for a $250 Amazon Gift Card and Mini-Party Fridges stuffed with CASH!  Plus, students will have a chance to qualify for the “Day of Awesomeness.”

I will be sending more emails throughout the two-week program.  Please contact me directly if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your support!

Sincerely,

Chad Eiben

Principal

Weekend Update 08-20-23

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out with your weekend update.  I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

Monday after school we will have our Cross-Country tryouts until 5:20PM.  This will be the first year that Cross-Country will be offered at the middle school level.  This sport will consist of a 2-mile run.  Please check out the flyer link below for more information if you are interested.

Tuesday will be our School Safety Day.  On this day we will practice three safety drills.  We will conduct a fire drill, an active threat drill, and a severe weather drill.  Please talk to your child about the importance of taking these drills seriously to ensure everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency.  Thank you!

Wednesday is our school picture day.  Pictures will be taken during Science classes.  Picture order forms were sent home with students this past week.  If you didn’t get one, I have attached an order form link below.  We want our students to look great for their pictures, but please help us ensure that they are in dress code (dress code link below).  Thank you!

Thursday we will have our first Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) meeting of the year.  If you are interested in FBLA, the meeting will be held at 8:40AM in room 2-110 (Coach Hedrick’s room).  Additionally, Thursday evening we will host our 7th and 8th grade Open House.  Doors will open at 5:30 and the event will begin at 6:00PM.  This is a great event to meet each teacher and find about their class.  We hope to see you there!

Attention athletes interested in Carwise intramural basketball.  This will kick off on Tuesday, August 29th.  Intramurals are in-school athletic open play and competitions.  All boys and girls are welcome to participate.  A full schedule of intramural dates will be given to athletes on the 29th.  Please know that to participate in intramurals, as well as take part in any school sports tryouts, students will need to turn in a current physical (dated within the past year), a participation form (link below), school insurance (link), and a 2.0 GPA.  All paperwork can be dropped off to the 7th grade office.

Parents, please don’t forget that all PCS forms are now electronic this school year.  Just use your parent ID and password to log into Focus using this link (https://focus.pcsb.org/focus/index.php).  Please be sure to fill out these forms in order to have access to your parent Focus account.

Also, I wanted to remind families that students cannot be on campus before 9:10AM as supervision of students does not begin until that time.  We are still having students on campus prior to this time daily.  For your child’s safety, please ensure students are not dropped off or arrive any earlier than 9:10AM.  Thank you!

Additionally, please know that the front of the school is our visitor parking lot and bus circle.  The front of the school is NOT for student drop off/pick-up.  For the safety of your child, please utilize the car loop behind the school.  Additionally, please do not drop off or pick up your child on the street or in nearby neighborhoods.  I witnessed many students exiting cars in the street before school.  I understand that the car circle takes time.  However, the safety of your child is more important than saving time in the car circle.  Thank you for your understanding.

For early release of students, please know that 3:45PM is the deadline to pick-up your child early.  No students will be released after this time as this will conflict with the bus and car loop and parents will need to wait until 4:10PM.

Also, I wanted to let families that food deliveries such as Uber Eats are not permitted at school.  Students must either bring their lunch or eat a school lunch.  Thank you for your support.

Additionally, we are looking to fill a couple of classroom assistant positions this year.  If you are looking for a 3- or 6-hour daily job, we are hiring!  We are looking to fill positions that support some of our special education students.  If you are interested helping students learn, please reach out to me for more information!

Last, please help make sure your child it prepared each day for school.  This includes having paper, pencil, and a charged computer.  Thank you!

Thank you again, Carwise families for your support of Carwise Middle where we are Always Moving Forward.  Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Weekend Update 08-13-23

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out with your weekend update.  I want to thank our students, families, and staff for a great first two days of school!  Please know that the car line will speed up and the busses will continue to improve (thank you for your patience).

For those of you that are new to Carwise Middle, I will send out Weekend Updates each weekend.  These will come in the form of a phone call and an email (both containing the same information).  We will also post each message to our website under the section titled Principal Eiben’s Announcements.

This coming Monday and Tuesday our 7th and 8th grade students will be assigned lockers if they want to use one (lockers are not required).  Locks must be purchased from school and cost $5.  Locks will be sold before school and during lunch.  If student have their school purchased lock from last year, they can use that lock again this year.  As part of our Middle School pilot program, 6th graders will not receive lockers as lockers often lead to poor organization, loss of items, and tardiness to class.  Once organization skills are mastered during 6th grade, lockers will be available the following school year.

Also, this week we will begin our Behavior Assemblies.  These assemblies are used to explain and remind students of our school-wide expectations as well as answer any questions.  Sixth graders will meet on Wednesday.  Seventh graders will meet on Thursday.  Eighth graders will meet on Friday.

Additionally, this week we will have Volleyball tryouts on Wednesday and Thursday morning starting at 7:30AM.  Please check out the flyer link below if you are interested.

Also, the following week we will have our Cross Country tryouts on Monday, August 21st after school until 5:20PM.  This will be the first year that Cross Country will be offered at the middle school level.  This sport will consist of a 2-mile race.  Please check out the flyer link below if you are interested.

Please know that to tryout for any PCS sport students will need to turn in a current physical (dated within the past year), a participation form (link attached below), school insurance (link), and a 2.0 GPA.  All paperwork can be dropped off to the 7th grade office.  Additionally, a fall sports calendar, outlining volleyball games and cross country meets, is also linked below.

Parents, please don’t forget that all PCS forms are now electronic this school year.  Just use your parent ID and password to log into Focus using this link (https://focus.pcsb.org/focus/index.php).

As a reminder, school breakfast AND lunch will be free this year for all students.  However, if students want snacks or a second lunch, students must pay for these.  Cash or check can be brought to school and deposited on student lunch accounts.  Or parents can log on to www.myschoolbucks.com to access their child’s lunch account.  Thank you!

Looking ahead, School Picture Day will be on Wednesday, August 23rd.  Order forms will go home soon!

Last, we often get questions from parents asking when their child should stay home from school if they are sick.  Please check out the easy-to-use document attached below to determine “When to Stay Home.”

Thank you again, Carwise families, for your continued support of Carwise Middle where we are Always Moving Forward.  Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Carwise Middle School – First Day of School Message

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out to wish everyone a wonderful first day of school tomorrow!  The teachers and staff have been working hard to prepare classrooms, student schedules, and lessons for our students.  We are very excited to kick off the new school year!

Parents, please remember that students should not arrive to school any earlier than 9:10AM.  The school doors will open at 9:20AM and school starts at 9:40AM.  School will dismiss at 4:10PM.

Attention all car riders, attached is a traffic flow map.  Please be very cautious and patient in the car line.  The car line is a No Cell Phone Zone.  Please take direction from our staff so you know where our loading and unloading zones are.  Please know that the front of the school is our visitor parking lot and bus circle.  The front of the school is NOT for student drop off/pick-up.  For the safety of your child, please utilize the car loop.

If you have a bus rider, the PCS Transportation Department mailed home postcards with bus information.  If you did not receive a postcard, please contact the transportation department at 727-587-2020.  For our bus riders, it is advised to arrive at the bus stop 10-minutes prior to the pick-up time.  Additionally, if the bus is late, remain at the bus stop as a bus will come.

As students arrive tomorrow, they should look for their grade level lists so they know which classroom to report to in order to pick up their schedule.  Grade level lists will be located in the following locations:  6th grade – Main Office Wall; 7th grade – Elevator Wall; and 8th grade – Stairwell Wall.  We will have lots of staff members out and helping students find their way.

Thank you, parents, for your support as we begin a new school year.  We are excited to see our smiling students tomorrow on the first day of school.  We are looking forward to fantastic things this year at Carwise Middle School where Sharks are Always Moving Forward.  Take care!

Carwise Middle Updates and Reminders

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  My name is Mr. Eiben, and I am the principal at Carwise Middle School.  I am reaching out with a very long message with LOTS of important information.

First, we will have our 6th Grade Open House on Tuesday, August 8th.  Doors will open at 5:30PM and the program will begin at 6PM.  Starting at 5:30PM, families can sign up for the PTSA, purchase spirit wear, put money on lunch accounts, pick up information regarding sports, and register to be a volunteer and/or mentor.  Once on campus families can pick up student schedules in the cafeteria.  At 6PM, families will report to their Homeroom/Enrichment period class so we can start the event.  During open house you will stay in each class for a short period of time to find out about each class and teacher.  This is a great event that allows students to meet their teachers and walk the school to see where their classes are located before the first day of school.

Our 7th and 8th Grade Open House will be held later in the school year on Thursday, August 24th.  More information will come as the date gets closer.

Attention parents of 7th graders, please remember that 7th grade students are required to have their Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) prior to the start of school or a valid documented exemption.  Please be sure to drop off your shot records to the front office.  Thank you!

Attached to the accompanying email is a general school supply list.  This is not an all-inclusive list as some teachers have specific items that they may require for their class.  However, this list will include most items that will be needed for school.  Please reach out to the school if you need assistance with school supplies.

Parents, please know that student schedules are still being completed by our school staff.  Schedules are not finalized at this point and are still subject to change up until the first day of school.  Additionally, class sizes will be balanced after the first 10 days of school, so additional schedule changes may occur.  Please know that any changes are done so to ensure students are placed in the appropriate classes to promote student success and to ensure compliance with the state class size amendment.

School starts for students on Thursday, August 10th.  Student school hours are from 9:40AM until 4:10PM.  On the first day, when students arrive, they should look for their grade level lists so they know which classroom to report to in order to pick up their schedule.  Grade level lists will be located in the following locations:  6th grade – Main Office Wall; 7th grade – Elevator Wall; and 8th grade – Stairwell Wall.  We will have lots of staff members out and helping students find their way.

Parents, please help us by ensuring that students do not arrive at school any earlier than 9:10AM.  The code of student conduct states that students should not be on campus any earlier than 30 minutes before the start of school as well as 30 minutes after school ends.  If you are looking for before/after care, we are partners with the Greater Palm Harbor YMCA on 16th Street in Palm Harbor.

Attention all car riders, I have attached a traffic flow map for you.

If you have a bus rider, the PCS Transportation Department will mail home postcards with bus information.  If you do receive a postcard, please contact the transportation department at 727-587-2020.  If you are riding a bus, it is advised to arrive at the bus stop 10 minutes early.

Parents, please help us enforce the dress code and cell phone policy at school.  Attached is a copy of the PCS dress code.  As for cell phones and other electronic devices, they must be turned off and put away while at school.  If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call the school and we will pass along the message.  Thank you!

School breakfast AND lunch will be free this year for all students.  However, if students want snacks or a second lunch, students must pay for these.  Cash or check can be brought to school and deposited on student lunch accounts.  Or parents can log on to www.myschoolbucks.com to access their child’s lunch account.  Thank you!

To ensure families are ready for the first day of school, PCS has a Back-to School Guide on the PCS website.  Click here to check out this important information.  Also, this year PCS has consolidated school forms online (https://www.pcsb.org/backtoschoolforms).  Parents can log into their Focus account to complete these forms.  Please note that parents must be linked to their child to fill out the forms.  Attached is a tip sheet for filling out the forms.

For those students interested in trying out for any of the Carwise Middle sports teams, those students will need to turn in a current physical (dated within the past year), a participation form (attached), school insurance (link), and a 2.0 GPA.  All paperwork can be dropped off to the front office.  Our first season for the school year will be Volleyball.  Tryout dates are TBD.

Parents, please support the Carwise PTSA this school year by joining the PTSA.  They provide valuable support to our students, teachers, and families.  Please check out their website:  https://www.facebook.com/CarwiseMiddlePTSA/

Last, for the third year in a row Carwise will be hosting The Players Sports Academy (PSA).  The PSA will be offering after school soccer on Tuesdays and after school flag football on Fridays.  If you are interested in these PSA programs, please check out the attached flyers and reach out to the PSA.

Parents, we are looking forward to a fantastic school year at Carwise Middle School where Sharks are Always Moving Forward.  School starts for students on Thursday, August 10th.  Please reach out if you have any questions.  Thank you and take care!

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  My name is Mr. Eiben, and I am the principal at Carwise Middle School.  I am reaching out to our incoming 6th grade families to inform you of some upcoming school events.

First, for our incoming 6th graders we have Shark Camp on Thursday, July 27th.  This camp will help familiarize our incoming 6th graders with the school campus, processes and procedures as well as allow them to meet other 6th graders and teachers too.  I highly encourage any 6th grader that is nervous about starting middle school to attend this camp.  This camp will start with a 30-minute introduction meeting for parents and students in the cafeteria.  After the introduction, students will move on to small group rotations to familiarize themselves with Carwise Middle and parents will be free to leave.  Also, to help with the middle school transition, if your child receives special education services in a self-contained Access classroom, we will have a special breakout session for students and parents after the 30-minute introduction meeting.

We will have two Shark Camp time slots on this day.  The first is 9AM until 11:15 for last names starting with letters A through L.  The second time slot is 12:30PM until 2:45 for last names starting with letters M through Z.  However, we are asking that all incoming 6th grade Access families attend the 9AM session.

For all families wanting to attend Shark Camp, please use this link to RSVP by July 20th.  Thank you!

Additionally, we will have our 6th Grade Open House on Tuesday, August 8th.  Doors will open at 5:30PM and the program will begin at 6PM.  This is a great event that allows students and families to get their schedule and meet their teachers before school starts.  More information will be sent out as the date gets closer.

Please reach out if you have any questions.  Take care and have a wonderful weekend!

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out to our soon to be 7th grade families.  Please know that 7th grade students are required to have their Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) prior to the start of school or a valid documented exemption.  If you have not done so, please contact your child’s pediatrician for an immunization appointment.  Also, the Florida Department of Health provides this immunization at NO COST.  Please be sure to drop off your Florida Certificate of Immunization (form 680) to the front office before August 10th.  Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

Thursday we will again have before school tutoring/credit recovery in the media center from 8:20 until 9:20AM.  Additionally, Thursday our students will take part in the FAST Writing Field Test.  This is the new state test for writing.  However, since this is just a field test, the results will not be release to students, families, or schools.  Instead, the state will use this data to make any modifications to the test that might be needed.  With that being said, we still need our students to put forth their best effort to show the state that we mean business at Carwise Middle!

As for Friday, there is no school for students or teachers.  That is right, that means a 3-day weekend!

Attention 8th graders that are signed up for Gradventure, please remember that we are currently in the disciplinary window for this trip.  This means that students cannot receive any major disciplinary referrals (including bus referrals) that result in an in-school, out-of-suspension, and/or bus suspensions.  If a student violates this policy, the student will not attend the trip AND no refunds will be given, as their money has already have been used to purchase a ticket.  Please help reinforce appropriate school behavior.

Speaking of appropriate school behavior, parents please remind your child that we need students to remain academically focused as we enter the last two months of the school year.  I understand that everyone is getting excited.  However, horseplay and misbehaviors will not be tolerated.  Students are expected to display appropriate school behavior, which is often different than acceptable behaviors outside of school.  We appreciate the help that each family can contribute to reinforcing appropriate school behavior.  Thank you!

Thank you again, Carwise families, for your continued support of Carwise Middle where we are Committed to Excellence in Education.  Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend

Last, parents please remember to use the car loop if your child is a car rider.  Yes, we know the car loop does take time.  However, the safety of our students is more important than a quick drop off or pick up.  Thus, please do not drop off or pick-up students on nearby streets, neighborhoods, or in the visitor parking lot.  Please only use the car loop behind the school.  Thank you!

Thank you, Carwise families, for your continued support of Carwise Middle where we are Committed to Excellence in Education.  Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Weekend Update 10-23-22

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out with your weekend update.  I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

First, I want to thank all of the parents who helped chaperone the SPIFFS field trip!  We appreciate your help.  Additionally, thank you to the parents who took part in the District Middle School Focus Group at Carwise.  Your participation is greatly appreciated.  Thank you all!

For this coming week, due to continued late busses we will begin to rotate each week starting the day in 1st and 3rd period.  This is the same process we used last school year.  This coming week we will start the day in 3rd period.  The period schedule progression for this coming week will be:  3, 2, 1, 4, 5, 6, 7.  The following week we will start in 1st period (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).  We will continue this rotation each week until bus arrival times improve.  I apologize for any inconvenience; however, this rotation will ensure that students are not missing the same 1st period class every day.  Thank you for your understanding.

Monday we will have our first National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) meeting for 8th grade students that received acceptance letters at 8:50AM in the cafeteria.  Also, Monday we will have after school ELP/tutoring in the media center from 4:20 until 5:20PM.  Please be sure to pick-up your child in the car circle behind the school.

Friday is college day!  Wear your favorite college gear!

Attention parents and students, we are launching a new reading incentive program called:  Carwise Cover to Cover.  We are starting this program to help promote the importance of reading (which was lost during the pandemic).  Research shows that students who read independently have greater reading comprehension, verbal fluency, and general knowledge than those who do not.  Additionally reading improves brain function, reduces stress, and improves your state of mind.  Thus, we are starting Carwise Cover to Cover!  Students who read and document 1,000 pages of independent reading over the next 10-weeks will be rewarded with a celebration that will include prizes, pizza, and surprises!  Students will need signatures from a parent and their Language Arts teacher as part of the process.  Check out the attached flyer below.  The deadline for the reading log is December 22nd.  Parents, please help us get our students reading again!  Thank you!

Last, parents we need your help with monitoring and reinforcing appropriate behavior.  At school, we conduct weekly lessons regarding appropriate student behavior, including how to handle and prevent bullying.  However, we need your help to reinforce what appropriate behavior is.  Please help by talking to your child about being respectful, kind, and accepting.  Also, please help by monitoring what your child does on social media.  Unfortunately, social media is often a major contributor to social issues.  It takes a village, and we appreciate your help.

Thank you, Carwise families, for your continued support of Carwise Middle where we are Committed to Excellence in Education.  Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Tuesday (through Thursday) our students will being the process of taking the Write Score assessment during their Language Arts classes.  This assessment will help us gage our students’ writing abilities so we can provide supports where needed.  Also, Tuesday we will again have after school ELP/tutoring in the media center from 4:20 until 5:20PM.

Wednesday we will have before school ELP/tutoring in the media center from 8:20 until 9:20AM.  Please drop off your child in front of the school at the main office.  Wednesday after school we will have an away volleyball game at Palm Harbor Middle.  Good luck student athletes!

Thursday we will again have before school ELP/tutoring in the media center from 8:20 until 9:20AM.  Also, Thursday is the Jacobsen Culinary Arts Academy at Tarpon High School field trip with Mrs. Duggan.  Additionally, some of our FBLA students will be headed to Innisbrook for the Fall FBLA Rally.

Friday is the final Friday of September.  Please help us show your support for September’s National Suicide Prevention Month by wearing Teal and Purple.  Thank you!  Also, on Friday we will start open gym / basketball conditioning for those students interested in trying out for our boys and girls basketball teams.  This will occur each Friday morning from 7:30 until 9:00AM.  Students interested in conditioning/trying out must have a completed participation form (attached), a copy of a physical dated within the past year, and a copy of school insurance (link).  PCS has yet to set dates for tryouts.  Once we know, we will pass along this information.

For those 8th grade families that are interested in the Countryside High School I-Stem program, please review the attached flyer for information about their Discovery Night and student shadowing days.

Last, just a reminder that September is School Attendance Awareness month.  Sporadic absences, not just those on consecutive days of school, matter.  Before you know it, just one or two days a month can add up to nearly 10% of the school year.  This puts students at risk of negatively impacting their education.  Help us set an example that attendance matters.  Thank you!

Thank you, Carwise families, for your continued support of Carwise Middle where we are Committed to Excellence in Education.  Please stay tuned for more information regarding any potential school closings due to the tropical weather.  Thank you and take care!

Mid-Week Update 09/08/22

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out with some mid-week updates.

First, thank you staff and families for your flexibility when the power went out today.  Parents, please talk with your child about appropriate behavior during emergency situations.  Thank you too all the students who quietly waited for instructions from staff the staff at Carwise.

Once again, our 7th & 8th Grade Open House will be canceled for this evening due to the power outage.  The power has come back on, but the buildings are getting warm, and we are not sure if the A/C is working correctly.  Thus, we will be rescheduling our 7th & 8th Grade Open House for Thursday, September 22nd.  Thank you for your understanding.

Next week, our PTSA will be hosting our first meeting of the school year on Tuesday, September 13th at 6:30PM in the Media Center.  At this meeting, the PTSA will be presenting their budget for approval.  Also, we will have a special presentation from the Pinellas County School Prevention Office regarding suicide prevention awareness.  In this session, facilitators will discuss signs to watch for, available resources, and what to do when your student needs help.  With September being Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and September 10th being World Suicide Prevention Day we knew this would be a very fitting and important presentation.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.  Don’t miss out.

In recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day, we are asking students and staff to wear Teal and Black to school tomorrow (Friday, September 9th).

Additionally, PCS is teaming up with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).  NAMI is offering a new teen program called EVOLVE.  This is a free 6-week mental health education program for youth under 18.  Topics will include stigma, finding help, and self-care.  This program will take place virtually on Saturday mornings starting September 24th.  Please see the attached flyer for more information and the link to register.

Last, September is also Attendance Awareness Month.  Research shows that nearly 9 out of 10 students who missed more than four days of school in September were chronically absent that school year.  Chronic absences, or missing two or more days of school a month, whether excused or unexcused, is associated with poor READING skills.  Help us help your child be successful in school.  Have them at school daily and on time.  Thank you!

Thank you again, families, for your continued support of Carwise Middle where we are Committed to Excellence in Education.  Take care!

Weekend Update 08-28-22

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out with your weekend update.  I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!  Once again, we had another great week at Carwise!

This coming week we will include lots of events, so please pay close attention.  This Monday we will begin our class balancing process to ensure that no classes are overloaded.  We do this to guarantee that our school meets the state required class size amendment law.  However, this does mean that students may receive a schedule change.  We know that this is not ideal, and we work to avoid this when possible.  Nevertheless, please know that some students will inevitably receive changes to their schedule.  This Monday, all students will check the 1st period class rosters that will be posted before school, just like we did on the first day of school.  This will direct students to their first period class where new schedules will be passed out.

On Tuesday (and Thursday), our students will take part in the new Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) progress monitoring assessment.  These assessments will monitor progress in reading and math three times a year to track student’s progress in learning the required materials.  Please note that these are progress monitoring assessments.  The results of the first assessments will only be used to help teachers understand what areas to focus on with their students.  The questions on these assessments will get easier or more difficult depending on how the student responds, and each student will see different questions.  Tuesday’s test will focus on Reading.

Wednesday we will kick off our exciting school-wide fundraiser that will help fund our Shark Bite Reward Program as well as provide other student and staff rewards and incentives.  Additionally, this fundraiser will have awesome student prizes.  Please be on the lookout for more information and look for the “Golden Ticket” to come home with your child on Wednesday.

Thursday students will take the Math section of the FAST progress monitoring assessment.  Again, the results of the first assessments will only be used to help teachers understand what areas to focus on with their students.  Also, Thursday evening our Performing Arts Boosters will be hosting a Spirit Night at Vampire Penguin Shaved Snow & Desserts.  Please see the attached flyer and come out to support the Performing Arts!

Each Friday we will be promoting College and Careers.  To take part, student should wear their favorite college, university, or tech college gear!  Go Gators and Bulls!

Also, this coming week we will kick off ELP and clubs.  Please check out the attached document to learn about our Extended Learning Program (ELP) times/days as well as all of our amazing clubs.  Don’t miss out on these great opportunities.

Additionally, if you are interested in learning more about the upcoming FAST progress monitoring assessments this week, you can find more information about the test and see sample questions at flfast.org/families.  Once on the site, just select the grade band appropriate for your student(s).

More information about the BEST standards and the new state assessments can be found at https://www.fldoe.org/accountability/assessments/k-12-student-assessment/best/.

Parents, if your child rides a bike to school, please encourage them to place their bike in one of our two bike racks.  Additionally, bikes should be locked up each day.  We had numerous bikes this past week that were not locked up and were not in the bike rack.  Thank you for your help!

Last, please support the Carwise PTSA.  This group provides many resources and programs that support our students, staff, and families.  Click here to check out the new PTSA website and to register to be a member.

Thank you, families, for your continued support of Carwise Middle where we are Committed to Excellence in Education.  Take care!

August 23rd Update

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, with a mid-week update.

I am excited to announce that we have secured coaches for our boys and girls volleyball teams.  I know it will be a quick turnaround, but the season is starting soon.  So, we will have boys and girls tryouts this week on Thursday and Friday (August 25th and 26th) after school until 5:30PM each day.  Students must attend both days.  Also, we will need a participation form (attached), a copy of a physical within the last year, and a copy of school insurance (link).  Information packets can be picked up in the media center.  Paperwork can be turned in at the media center OR students can bring their paperwork to the gym during tryouts.  Best of luck to our athletes!

Additionally, we continue to have a few late busses each day.  Please know that a bus will always come for our students, even if it is running late.  Thus, students should remain at the bus stop in the morning until the bus arrives.  We are hopeful that these issues will be worked out soon.  If you have questions or concerns regarding busses, please reach out to the Transportation Department (727-587-2020).  Also, if you are not yet signed up to receive notifications about late busses and bus changes, I highly recommend you sign up for Bus Bulletin.  Click here for more information about the Bus Bulletin notification system.

Last, I sent an email out earlier today regarding an upcoming fundraiser for our school.  This fundraiser will help fund our Shark Bites Reward Program as well as provide other student and staff rewards and incentives.  Additionally, this fundraiser will have awesome student prizes.  If you did not get the email, please reach out to the school to ensure your email address is correct in Focus.  Thank you!

Thank you, again families, for your continued support of Carwise Middle where we are Committed to Excellence in Education.  Take care!

This coming week we will have student pictures on Wednesday through science classes.  Picture packets were sent home on Friday.  I have also attached this information if you did not receive the packet.  Also, on Wednesday after students get their picture taken, we will be checking for student computer damage and re-checking out computers to students.  Please be sure that if your child has their school computer on Wednesday so we can take care of this required process.

Also, this week our school nurse will be reaching out to 7th grade families that have not yet turned in their required shot records.  Seventh grade students are required to have their Tdap vaccine or a valid documented exemption.  Otherwise, students will be excluded from classes as per Florida Statue.  Please be sure to get your shot records turned in if you have not done so.  Thank you!

Cheerleading tryouts will be held on September 6th and 7th in the cafeteria.  Students must attend both days and be picked up at school by 5:45PM.  Those interested in trying out can pick up the information packet from the media center.  Students trying out must turn in a completed participation form (attached), a copy of a physical dated within the past year, and a copy of school insurance (link).  Paperwork is due by September 1st and should be turned in to the media center.  Best of luck to those trying out!

For those students interested in trying out for volleyball, we are currently searching for coaches.  If/when we find coaches, I will send out information regarding tryouts.  However, we do want to get the paperwork started.  Those interested in trying out can pick up the information packet from the media center.  Students trying out must turn in a completed participation form (attached), a copy of a physical dated within the past year, and a copy of school insurance (link).  Paperwork is due ASAP and should be turned in to the media center.  Please stay tuned as tryouts will most likely be this week.

In other sports related news, our partner The Players Sports Academy (PSA) has filled up their flag football program.  However, they are still looking for more participants for the soccer program.  Those who participate in the soccer program will receive top-notch instruction from a former Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer player.  Reach out to the PSA using this link for more information.  Don’t miss out!

Attention parents, school breakfast will be free this year for all students.  However, lunch will cost $2.75 unless your family qualifies for free/reduced lunch.  If students want a second meal, it will cost $2.50.  Also, we have started selling snacks again.  Snacks are not included in the regular cost of lunch.  Cash or checks can be brought to school and deposited on student lunch accounts.  Or parents can log on to www.myschoolbucks.com to access their child’s lunch account.  If you receive free/reduced lunch, or think you may qualify, please be sure to apply/re-apply for this school year at www.myschoolapps.com.  For more information regarding school meals, please check out the attached school meals flyer.  If you have additional questions or if financial stress is an issue, please reach out to our cafeteria manager, Franja Eastling at 727-724-1459.

Last, parents please know that good student attendance at school helps children do well at school and eventually in the workplace.  Good attendance matters for school success.  By middle and high school, poor attendance is the leading indicator of dropping out of school.  Developing the habit of good attendance prepares students for success in school, the workplace, and in life.  Please help and support good attendance.  Thank you!

Carwise Middle Upcoming School Events

Hello, Carwise Middle School families.  My name is Mr. Eiben and I am the proud principal at Carwise Middle School.  I am reaching out to inform our families of some upcoming school events.  We are looking forward to a fun-filled school year.

First, for our incoming 6th graders we have Shark Camp this Wednesday, July 27th.  This camp will help familiarize our incoming 6th graders with the school campus, processes and procedures as well as allow them to meet other 6th graders and teachers too.  I highly encourage any 6th grader that is nervous about starting middle school to attend this camp.  We will offer two time slots on this day.  The first is 9AM until 11:15 for last names staring with letters A through L.  The second time slot is 12:30PM until 2:45 for last names starting with letters M through Z.  No RSVP or reservation necessary.  Also, parents are encouraged to stay the first 15 minutes of each session.

Additionally, we will have our 6th Grade Open House on Monday, August 8th.  Doors will open at 5:30PM and the program will begin at 6PM.  Starting at 5:30PM, families can sign up for the PTSA, purchase spirit wear, put money on lunch accounts, pick up information regarding sports, and register to be a volunteer and/or mentor.  Once on campus we will have 1st period classes posted alphabetically for each student in the cafeteria.  At 6PM, students will report to their 1st period class and pick up their schedule.  During open house you will stay in each class for a short period of time to find out about each class and teacher.  This is a great event that allows students to meet their teachers and walk the school to see where their classes are located before the first day of school.

Our 7th and 8th Grade Open House will be held later in the school year on Thursday, September 8th.  More information will come as the date gets closer.

Attention parents of 7th graders, please remember that we need your child’s updated shot records.  Seventh grade students are required to have their Tdap vaccine prior to the start of school or a valid documented exemption.  Otherwise, students will be excluded from classes as per Florida Statue.  If you have not done so, please drop off your shot records to the front office.  Thank you!

Attached to the accompanying email is a general school supply list.  This is not an all-inclusive list as some teachers have specific items that they may require for their class.  However, this list will include most items that will be needed for school.  Please reach out to the school if you need assistance with school supplies.

Parents please know that student schedules are still being completed by our school staff.  Schedules are not finalized at this point and are still subject to change up until the first day of school.  Additionally, class sizes will be balanced after the first 10 days of school, so additional schedule changes may occur.  Please know that any changes are done so to ensure students are placed in the appropriate classes in order to promote student success.

We are looking forward to a fantastic school year at Carwise Middle.  School starts for students on Wednesday, August 10th.  Please reach out if you have any questions.  Enjoy the rest of your summer and take care.
