Wednesday Update 01-20-21
Hello, Carwise Middle School families. This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out with a few mid-week updates.
Please remember that tomorrow and Friday we have our APM progress monitoring assessments. Please ensure your child’s computer is fully charged and ready for testing. Also, please make sure your child brings headphones or earbuds for testing.
As a general reminder, Traditional students should be bringing their school-issued computer to school each day to help facilitate learning in the classroom. If your child just returned to the Traditional setting and you need a computer, I have attached the required form for you to fill out.
Also, we recently received word that due to a rise in COVID cases in Pinellas County, middle school sports will be suspended until at least February 19th. Unfortunatley, this suspension will cause the cancellation of the Middle School volleyball season for this school year. We will continue to keep you updated about the possibility of basketball, cheerleading, and track as we receive more information.
Last, I want to again remind everyone of the importance of following our COVID procedures at school. With over 900 students now on campus, it is essential that everyone is wearing their mask while on campus. Masks must cover the mouth and nose. Additionally, social distancing to the greatest extent possible is required. Students must remain in assigned seats while in class and in the cafeteria. Hands should be sanitized/washed often. Finally, if your child is not feeling well, please keep them home. If anyone in the home tests positive for COVID, please report this to the school AND keep your child home until a return date is communicated by the school.
Thank you so much for your continued support of Carwise Middle. Have a great evening and take care!

Weekend Update 01/17/21
Hello, Carwise Middle School families. This is Mr. Eiben, your principal, reaching out with some weekend updates. Please remember that there is no school this Monday, Jan. 18th in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. Also, there will be no school on Tuesday, Jan. 19th as this is a teacher workday.
We will be back in session to start the 2nd semester on Wednesday, Jan. 20th. All students will receive updated 2nd semester schedules in their first period class on this day. For those who are just returning to campus, we will have first period class lists posted around the school and staff on duty to help direct students where to go. Also, on Wednesday we will have a fire drill during 7th period.
On Thursday and Friday students will be taking a progress monitoring assessment at the beginning of each day in their 1st period class. Thursday will focus on Reading and Friday will focus on Math. These assessments will be computer-based and run on the identical platform that the FSA test are administered. This will be a good refresher for students as they did not test on this platform last year. Also, these assessments will give our teachers real time data on how to support our students moving forward.
This coming week we will continue to conduct make-up mid-term exams. For Traditional students, they will be called down to room 2-109 for make-ups. For MyPCS students, you will receive a Teams invitation or call from Mr. Obara. Please be sure to answer this call. Any student that does not complete their mid-term exams will receive a zero for these tests. Please be sure to get these finished. Thank you!
Parents don’t forget that we do offer ELP/tutoring and clubs. I have attached our ELP schedule. If your child is struggling, please utilize this great resource. Also, for second semester we will be starting Spanish Club/Tutoring on Tuesdays after school.
Picture retakes will occur on Thursday, February 4th. Those who missed picture day or wish to turn in their original pictures for new ones, this is your day. I have attached the ordering information if you need it. MyPCS student picture retakes will occur between 10AM and 12noon. Please check-in in the front office and you will be directed to the cafeteria stage for your pictures. Parents, please wait out front for your child. Thank you!
Last, I want to review our COVID expectations and procedures. With more students being on campus, it is essential that everyone is doing their part. Masks are required and must cover the nose and mouth. Social distancing should be exercised to the greatest extent possible while on campus. Please remember to sanitize and/or wash your hands often. Also, please adhere to the one-way hallway in the grade level areas as well as the one-way stairs (main stairs are up and all other small stairs are down). Students must remain in their assigned seats. Last, if a student is not feeling well, they need to stay home. If anyone in the family tests positive, please notify the school and remain home.
I want to thank everyone for your help and understanding as we continue to navigate these very different times. Please remind your child about the importance of following the COVID protocols in order to keep everyone healthy. I hope everyone has a great weekend. We will see everyone back here on Wednesday. Thank you and take care!

The school will work to honor the change within five school days of receiving the request. Parents should be aware that changing Learning Options will likely result in a change of teachers/courses. Not all core and elective courses are offered in both Learning Options.
