    CMS Newsletter

    November / December 2018

    Dear Carwise family members,

Thank you for the support you have provided throughout this first semester of the 2018/2019 school year.  I want to individually thank Lathea Bowen, our new PTSA leader, for all the energy, ideas and kindness she has brought to make sure we continually have fun family events and activities for our children.

We just celebrated our 25th Anniversary on October 19th.  It was a wonderful event bringing our alumni, original staff members and current CMS family together to honor all the accomplishments at this amazing school.  Thank you to former teachers Carol Kryston, Barbara Nelson, and Cynthia Suhweil for organizing this grand event.

We are fortunate to have a visitor from our sister city in Nagano, Japan.  The sister city program has been in place in Pinellas for sixty years.  We welcome our guest Takafumi Yamada, who has spent this past week at Carwise Middle.

We are happy to have introduced three additional clubs this year.  This is in addition to the over 25 clubs and activities we already have in place for our students.  Animal Helping Hands is a club with over fifty members.  Students volunteer at pet shelters, veterinary clinics and work with animals to improve their lives.  Our monster club just hosted our first annual haunted trail.  It was a scary success!  They are working on a number of chilling projects.  Our Origami Club offers a hands on creative experience for our students.  We have over 120 new members between these three clubs.  Our goal is to make sure our students are involved and enjoying social activities beyond the school day.

Our Future Business Leader students (FBLA) are preparing for a competition at St. Petersburg College.  We are one of only a few middle schools competing.  Over the past three years we have placed in the state and national competitions as well.  Our Carwise Middle School FBLA students are impressive!

Congratulations to our two students who recently won writing awards and have been published.  Angelina Rider was published in Teen Mosaic magazine and Isabelle Cullen had her writing showcased in Teen Ink magazine.

Thank you to our Builder’s Club and Kiwanis Club for leading a food drive that collected over 2200 food items for needy families.

We have so many students and staff members to celebrate for all they have accomplished.  I am fortunate to serve this amazing school.  Enjoy the holidays with your loved ones.

    Thank you,

    Robert Vicari

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

We are now one of a few middle schools in the State of Florida to have a Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter. The students engage in State and National competitions. Every competition has a business focus. Students are provided the opportunity to meet and work with top CEOs and Entrepreneurs from all over the world.  This is Carwise Middle School’s first FBLA group. We are looking forward to competing on a state level in Orlando.

We are proud of our CMS Sharks!
