We are very fortunate to have been able to serve our community and over 1700 evacuees during Hurricane Irma.  Carwise Middle School is a shelter when storm surge is a major concern.  We are at a higher elevation, at over 45 feet above sea level.  Our county has released information regarding the three hurricane make up days.  This information, as well as other important dates and events are listed on our CMS webpage.

We are continuing to offer before and after school support for any student struggling in a core subject.  Please continue to monitor your child’s progress using Portal / Focus.  If you need assistance accessing this information, please come to our front office during the school day.  We will have staff members who can assist you.  If you need additional support for your child, please contact the grade level administrator, counselor or myself.

With over 22 clubs and organizations at CMS, I encourage students to get involved.  We all know the importance of students being involved in music, sports, social clubs and activities.  We want our students to be confident, well rounded, and exposed to the arts at every opportunity.

Carwise students and teachers were recently in the spotlight. Our sixth grade student, Kylee Black won first place in a county-wide writing contest, with her writing selection “What 9-11 means to me”.  Kylee was awarded a $500 prize for this accomplishment. One of our outstanding teachers, Ms. Russo was identified as a Pinellas County Inspiring Teacher. She will be highlighted in a web series to help other teachers throughout our county. We are very proud of our 12 students who worked through the competitions and challenges to become part of the All-State Chorus group. They are; Christy Do, Alyssa Lazanowski, Ryan Leigh, Lauren Potak, Gavin Rabbers, Sahara Seifried, Delaney Stewart, Simone Gladstone, Hannah Phillips, January Poteat, Ariana Stein-Lincoln and Jake Tomlinson. We want to thank and congratulate our Chorus teacher, Mrs. Moss for the time and hard work spent in preparing these students for this achievement.

Our technology program is expanding, and we recently earned a $5,000 grant and additional funding to continue building on all that we currently have in place. Our emphasis is on exposing our students to emerging technology.  We recognize that the world our students will live in as an adult will be significantly different from our world today.  We are working to incorporate technology and technology instruction in many subject areas.  As educators, we must become experts in how the following technologies can benefit students and prepare them with the foundations necessary to pursue careers in these areas;  Big Data, Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Social Media and Privacy, Security Business Intelligence, Virtual Organizations, Medical Diagnosis, Smart Grids, Nano Technologies, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, 3D Printing, Biometrics and Smart Cities.  We must research, learn and develop the skills necessary to ensure that our next generation is equipped with the abilities they will need to thrive in a world of rapidly-evolving technology.  We must have insights on the latest trends in technology and actionable steps we can take now to make our school more tech-competitive.  This is a big initiative we will focus on during the next three years.

I want to thank parents for your support of CMS, attending our September Open House, volunteering to serve on our PTSA, our School Advisory Council, and all the ways you help our school community.  We rely on you to stay involved and engaged at our school.  As a result of these strong partnerships and community support over the years, we have been able to earn the Florida 5 Star School award for 24 years. Together we will continue to make Carwise Middle an exceptional school for our students, staff and families!

    Thank You,

    Robert Vicari, Ed.S

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

We are now one of a few middle schools in the State of Florida to have a Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter. The students engage in State and National competitions. Every competition has a business focus. Students are provided the opportunity to meet and work with top CEOs and Entrepreneurs from all over the world.  This is Carwise Middle School’s first FBLA group. We are looking forward to competing on a state level in Orlando.

We are proud of our CMS Sharks!
