Grades - the downside

The pressure on students with school is not just their work, but their grades.

In all grades, especially high school and middle school, you have just about eight classes. In each class you have a grade, and that grade determines how you do on your report card, and that report card determines how you do in life.

But for many students, their parents push them to get nothing but good grades. But I wonder, is it ever too much?

The pressure on students with school is not just their work, but their grades. And many of these students feel as though these 8 letters define who they are as a human being. Whether they are smart or not. Whether they are smart in other aspects of their life, those grades put so much pressure on them that they feel like they aren’t good enough for anything.

Students already have enough pressure on them with situations regarding their friends, family life, and anything else they may have to worry about, not to mention school work and on top of that any disorders such as depression or anxiety they may have. If their grades aren’t perfect, they feel almost as if they have failed in life.

Since the beginning of time, it’s been like this, and it’s understandable.

But maybe it’s time to change. Suicide rates for teens have gone up in past years, and more and more teens are committing suicide because of the pressure of school. But I think it’s time for students to really know: these 8 letters do not define you as a human being. They do not define you at all. They do not define how smart you are, or how worthy you are of life.

They are just grades, yes they are important, but you as yourself are more important that those 8 letters, and I think it’s time someone puts out that message.
