Degrees and Certifications:
Hello, I am the lead journalism teacher at Melrose Elementary. I have a B.S. in journalism from Kent State University and am certified to teach Elementary Ed K-6, as well as ESE and ESOL K-12. This is my third year teaching at Melrose. I have previously taught second and fourth grades and reading intervention K-5. I love teaching journalism, because it allow the scholars to learn life skills that will benefit them no matter what profession they choose. Journalism also gives the scholars a voice. Scholars get to write, take photograhs and videos to tell their story.
Also on the Multimedia Journalism Team
I am the multimedia journalism teacher at Melrose, helping scholars tell stories through videography and still photography. I am also the Library/Media specialist. I went to Rutgers University and studied visual art with a focus on photography and video art. I love getting our scholars access to exciting technology.
As the Pinellas County Schools Journalism Program Coordinator, I take great pleasure in seeing our youngest journalists at Melrose embrace their new confidence
that journalism skills provide. What Melrose scholars learn from journalism -- the importance of looking people in the eye when talking, asking critically thought out questions and telling fair and accurate stories -- makes them better citizens. I am a journalist with 31 years' experience at the Tampa Bay Times. I hold B.A. degrees in journalism and psychology from Indiana University.
