<div> Dr. Kanika Jelks-Tomalin spoke to Ms. McDonald's first-grade class about her experience as deputy mayor of St. Petersburg. She was appointed by Mayor Rick Kriesman to work for the city of St. Petersburg.&nbsp; The experience she gained as a journalist helped&nbsp; prepare her for this new job. Deputy Mayor Jelks-Tomalin said&nbsp; she enjoys "helping people and giving back to the community that raised me."</div>
