Welcome to Lakewood Elementary School, home of the Tigers! My name is Thomas Muirhead, and I am honored to serve as the Assistant Principal of this remarkable school community.

I began my educational journey at Kean University in New Jersey, where I graduated summa cum laude. Inspired by a passion for service and learning, I continued my studies at Barry University, earning a master’s degree in educational leadership. This school year marks my 10th year in education, a decade dedicated to supporting students, families, and teachers.

My career began in Gadsden County, where I proudly taught English Language Arts and History. In 2018, I joined Pinellas County Schools and found my educational home at Lakewood Elementary. I first served as an ELA interventionist, working closely with scholars to build strong literacy foundations. In 2022, I transitioned into the role of Magnet Coordinator, supporting our school’s creative arts, health, and wellness theme. In 2025, I had the privilege of being promoted to Assistant Principal, a role that allows me to continue uplifting our students, empowering our educators, and building strong partnerships with families and the community.

I firmly believe that every child deserves a high-quality education, rich in opportunity, creativity, and academic challenge. I also believe that an educated citizenry is essential to the survival of democracy and self-rule. Our work here at Lakewood is not only about preparing students for middle school, high school, or college—it is about developing tomorrow’s leaders, thinkers, creators, and informed citizens.
