PE: The Place to Be


    It is important that children have physical activity. There has been much research that indicates that daily physical activity increases the ability to learn and higher test scores. Our PE classes include fitness activities, appropriate motor skill development, rhythms, gymnastics and tumbling skills, basic sports skills, and low competitive games. Our curriculum is aligned to the "Next Generation Sunshine State Standards."

    Although our students don’t receive PE time every day, two days a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays) we have an activity time before school begins and on Tuesdays we encourage students to come outside before school and walk or run laps in our running club.  All of these opportunities begin at 8:05 and end at the first bell at 8:25.  Students should get breakfast in the cafeteria before heading out to Running Club.

    Our goal is to help our students to be better learners and score higher on tests. We encourage our students to eat a healthy breakfast every day and get some activity in the morning. Research has shown that both of these practices contribute to better learning and higher test scores.

    One of our biggest plays this year and last year is our Multicultural Diversity San Jose Garden. We are growing plants and vegetables from around the world-all representative of our students and families, diverse cultures.

    Our monthly super sport award ribbons are presented, honoring those students who represent our Commitment to Character traits of : Respect, Motivation, Honesty and Responsibility. These children show great effort and attitude in the PE classes. They receive a super sport ribbon and are their PE instructor's special helper for the month.


    Please remind your children to follow the school dress code and dress appropriately for physical activity. We cannot allow children to wear jackets, sweaters or sweatshirts during PE class during hot weather as they get overheated.
    Of course, during cool weather, please send your child with an appropriate jacket, sweatshirt or sweater to keep warm.

    Students should wear tennis shoes/sneakers to PE class for safety reasons. All shoes should fit properly and be tied correctly. Sneakers with closed toes and closed heels will be required for all students' safety.

    Unacceptable footwear includes: dress shoes, boots, sandals and flip flops. Pants should be secure at the waist; girls should wear shorts under skirts or dresses. Hats are permitted outside, if they are worn correctly and are not a disruption to the class. Any clothing articles left outside at the end of the day will be discarded.


    A written note from a parent, guardian or doctor is necessary for a student to be excused from participation. Students should give the note to their PE teacher at the beginning of class.  A physician's note is required if a child needs to be excused more than 3 consecutive days. In certain cases, a physician's note may be required for a child to be admitted to resume physical activity in PE class, such as after a broken bone. If you do not have a written excuse, your doctor can fax the information to the school @ 727 469-5960

    Please alert the PE teachers in writing of any medical issues concerning your child that restricts participation in physical activity.
