About Richard L Sanders School

        The school was originally built in 1958 as a school for the mentally handicapped and was called Parkland School. Over the next two decades it grew in size to include 5 permanent buildings. In 1981, it was converted to a school for students who were classified as Severely Emotionally Disturbed and was renamed Richard L. Sanders School. In 2002, the old buildings were replaced with a new, state of the art facility.

       We have a full range of academic and vocational programs for students in grades K through 12. Our mission is the students will master the Pinellas County Student Expectations and learn the affective skills necessary to grow into successful adults in a positive, safe, and respectful school environment. Our motto is learning, growing, and succeeding. We are very proud of the students and staff of Richard L. Sanders School and welcome you to visit us at any time.
