Band gives every student the opportunity to develop his/her musicianship skills through wind and percussion instruments. This is achieved by participating in our band and jazz band classes. In addition, solos, ensembles, and other performance opportunities are offered to encourage musical and personal growth.

Musicianship is also developed through the use of musical etudes, rhythmic exercises, tone development, ear training, articulation, and intonation. It is important that each student understands that he/she must build a correct fundamental foundation of musical skills through practice and experiences, both heard and seen, before he/she can go to the next level of musicianship.

On a daily basis, students concentrate on developing their musical skills in articulation, tone production, intonation, dynamics, style, blend, balance, rhythmic precision, ear training, and many others through the various literature used in class. The Department’s goal is to help students realize their full potential as they prepare for high school and beyond. It is important that all students demonstrate a high level of commitment to the program as there may be educational and performance opportunities planned outside of class time.

Dance is designed to develop strength and flexibility through a pure classical technique. This technique ultimately gives a dancer the greatest freedom and facility to pursue his or her personal expression and to adapt to the eclectic repertoires found in dance companies today. At each level, a schedule of classes has been created to develop the physical and technical strength that propel a student toward artistic growth. Appropriate performance opportunities further provide the challenge necessary for a young dancer to develop confidence and stage presence.

All Dance students receive one daily dance class, which include a ballet and modern technique class. Depending on level, dancers are required to take appropriate classes in ballet, lyrical, modern dance, jazz, and choreography.

At the advanced levels, performing is considered an intrinsic part of the training and is therefore required of students. Rehearsals and performance preparation are in addition to all regularly scheduled dance classes.
