Message from Superintendent Grego
Thank you for your support and patience as we worked diligently to develop a ReOpening Plan that keeps the health and wellbeing of students and staff at the forefront, while also creating a nurturing and productive learning environment. We have worked closely with our local medical advisory group, used the latest health information, guidance from the CDC, and your feedback, to provide three learning options for Fall 2020. This website provides the details of those options so you can make an informed decision about your student’s education.
Our plan is based on four guiding principles: 1) Ensure the safety and wellness of students and employees; 2) Reopen Pinellas County Schools for students; 3) Provide parents flexibility and choice through instructional learning options; 4) Deliver high-quality instruction to students.
This plan denotes what the district will submit for approval to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) to ensure that we are given the flexibility to offer, and be funded for, the MyPCS Online learning option developed to support our students. The ReOpening Plan for Pinellas County Schools is separate from any decision about the start date for the 2020-21 school year. As outlined by the FDOE Emergency Order 2020-EO-06, issued on July 6 regarding Florida’s Optional Innovative Reopening Plan, the expectation for reopening in August with all brick and mortar schools open at least five days per week for all students is subject to advice and orders of the Florida Department of Health, local departments of health, Executive Order 20-149, and subsequent executive orders. Please know that the district continues to work with the Pinellas Department of Health on a daily basis. As school opening is less than a month away, should advisement from the Department of Health result in any change to the date or methods of instruction used for the start of school, that information will be communicated immediately.
