    Acceptable Forms of Documentation for Residency Classification

    Applicants under 24 years of age are presumed to be dependent. Dependent applicants should have a parent/legal guardian complete the residency affidavit.Applicants under age 24 who claim independence may be required to submit a copy of his or her most recent tax return, along with a copy of the most recent tax return of parent or guardian.Florida residency statutes require at least two documents, dated 12 months prior to the first day of class for the entry term sought, to validate a claim for Florida residency for tuition purposes. At least one document must be from the list below.

    Required Documentation (at least one of the two documents submitted must be from this list)

    • Florida Driver’s License
    • Florida Voter’s Registration card
    • Florida Vehicle Registration
    • State of Florida identification card
    • Proof of a permanent home in Florida which is occupied as the primary residence(to include mortgage paperwork, homeowners insurance or 12 months of continual utility payments)
    • Proof of a homestead exemption in Florida
    • Proof of permanent full-time employment in Florida (one or more jobs for at least 30 hours per week for a12-month period – NOTARIZED letter from employer on official letterhead required)
    • Official Transcript from a Florida school

    Additional Documentation May Include

    • A declaration of domicile in Florida (the date that an applicant shall be deemed as establishing residency for tuition purposes shall be 12 months from the date that the Clerk of Circuit Court notes the declaration)
    • A valid and current Florida professional or occupational license
    • Proof of membership in Florida-based charitable or professional organizations (example: United Way or Chamber of Commerce)
    • Documents evidencing a Florida incorporation (listed on SUNBIZ.org)
    • Any other documentation that supports the applicant’s request for resident status, including, but not limited to, utility bills and proof of 12 consecutive months of payment, a lease agreement and proof of 12 consecutive months of payment, or an official state, federal, or court document evidencing legal ties to Florida. (example: Adoption or guardianship paperwork)
