Physical Therapists

  • What are Physical Therapy Services at School?

Within the school environment, all Physical Therapy (PT) services are provided as a related service to enhance the student’s ability to access his/her educational program. PT as a related service is designed to minimize the disabling effects of motor, muscular, and skeletal deficits which enable the student to benefit from a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).   It is important to realize that if a student has an identifiable therapy need which does not prevent the student from accessing or progressing in his/her educational program, then school based therapy is not indicated.

How are Physical Therapy Services provided at Paul B Stephens?

At Paul B Stephens, we work closely with the classroom teachers to provide a continuum of care for our students that can be integrated throughout the school day.  Physical Therapy is not a stand alone service.  We collaborate, assist and train the classroom staff in regards to the individual student needs to enhance the child’s learning experience.  We strive to provide intervention strategies that can be embedded into a student’s daily routine and be implemented not only during PT but throughout the day by the classroom staff.
