School Dress Code

Starkey Elementary operates under the guidelines of a mandatory uniform policy.
Students not in compliance will be sent to the office to change from inappropriate item(s).
Continued infractions can be cause for parents to bring a change of clothes for their child.
The policy is very specific. Please read it carefully before you purchase any school clothes.All students (Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade) must wear the official school uniform as described below
- Boys can choose from dark blue uniform shorts or pants. For Grades 1-5, pants or shorts (no oversized or baggy) with loops will require a plain dark-colored belt (navy blue, black, or brown).
- Girls can choose from dark blue uniform shorts, pants, capris, skorts, skirts, and jumpers (no dresses). For Grades 1-5, pants or shorts with loops will require a plain dark-colored belt (navy blue, black, or brown). Girls may only wear navy blue shorts under their skirts or jumpers. These shorts may not show below the hem.
- Loops may not be cut off of clothing.
- All students can choose from light blue, hunter green or burgundy polo shirts to coordinate with navy blue bottoms. All uniform shirts MUST be either 2-4 button polo shirts with a collar. No zippers, V-neck, button down, logos, designs, lace or ruffles are allowed.
- All pants, shorts, skorts, skirts and jumpers must be appropriate length.
- If a shirt has been autographed, it is no longer a uniform shirt and may not be worn.
- Under shirts, if worn, must be plain white.
- Shirts must be tucked in shorts, pants, skorts, or skirts.
- No oversized, baggy, denim, knit, corduroy, zip-off cargo, or sweatpants will be allowed. All uniforms must be cotton/polyester.
- The Starkey T-shirt or other Starkey shirt may be worn on the last day of the school week.
- Solid white, navy blue or black matching socks with no designs or logos are to be worn.
- Acceptable shoes are sneakers or tennis shoes with a closed-toe and closed-heel, lace ties or Velcro closure and a rubber sole not exceeding 1 inch in height. Platforms, heels, sandals, boots, buckles, Mary Jane Shoes or any shoes that have an opening on the top are not acceptable.
For safety reasons, the “Healy” type shoes (with or without wheels) are not allowed.
INDOOR CLOTHINGFor cool weather may consist of the following (no logos or designs):
- Long sleeved 2-4 button polo shirts with a collar (light blue, hunter green, or burgundy)
- Sweatshirts/sweaters (solid light blue, navy, hunter green, or burgundy) or the Starkey sweatshirt. Uniform polo shirt will be worn under the sweater or sweatshirt.
- Under shirts, if worn, must be plain white.
- Tights or leggings under shorts, skorts, skirts, or jumpers (solid white, navy or black)
- Starkey jackets may be worn over uniform shirts. Other jackets are permitted inside if there are no logos or designs on them.
OUTDOOR CLOTHING- Parents may select any type of outerwear they wish (refer to the dress code in the Code of Student Conduct).
EXCEPTIONS- Scout uniforms on meeting days
- Days approved by Principal’s discretion
*Please note: for safety purposes no book bags with wheels should be used at school.
*Please make sure you have your child’s name on anything they can take off or leave behind such as: jackets, sweatshirts etc. When items get left behind, we can return them to the child when they have a first and last name on them.
*Make sure to buy long pants when uniform shopping, the stores clearance out the uniform supplies early to make room for the holiday seasons.
