Meet Bonnie Huggins...

I began volunteering at Mildred Helms Elementary school in the fall of 2016 when my oldest granddaughter entered 1st grade here. As an avid reader I have found the media center a wonderful place to spend the majority of my volunteer time. Covering some of the time-consuming activities (shelving books, book repairs, book fair, etc.) gives our media specialist more time to plan exciting lessons and do library administration tasks. Reading and accessibility to books are essential to learning! I have also found many other volunteer opportunities for helping the staff make this an awesome school (picture day, field trips, vision/hearing clinics, special projects for teachers & staff, etc.). Helping at their school also keeps me regularly in touch with my granddaughters’ educational activities.
