School Safety Updates:
As a result of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act a number of safety measures have been put into place in Pinellas County Schools which will result in changes to the daily operations at Cross Bayou. All staff will be participating in safety training before students begin school. Joining our staff is School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Andrew Cappa. All exterior school doors will remain locked at all times. Our school office has been equipped with secure storefront glass. All visitors must be cleared to enter the secure area of the school through Badge Pass. Visitors who do not have a JLA (Jessica Lundsford Act) Level 2 clearance must be escorted by school personnel at all times while on campus. Those volunteers with JLA Level 2 clearance will be granted access to campus only on school scheduled volunteer opportunities.
Families are allowed to have breakfast and lunch with their child. For breakfast we will continue to use our current process of parents entering the cafeteria through the main gate and eating breakfast with their own children at the designated Family Tables. When you finish breakfast, you will say goodbye in the cafeteria or on the patio and exit through the front gate.
For lunch, parents will come in through the office, sign-in, get a visitor tag and go to the cafeteria area to wait for their child. You will want to arrive before your child’s lunch time and have your identification so we can input it into the badgepass system. At lunch, families may sit in the cafeteria because we have staff that are always in the cafeteria. After lunch, you will say your goodbye to your child when the teacher picks up the class and leave through the office, turning in your visitor tag.
We are working on how to use our picnic area to comply with having a staff member out there. For right now, we are still planning to have the first Friday of each month a time that parents can eat with their child out in the picnic area. We are going to work on other days that we can offer this option as well and will keep you posted.
Because lunch time is a time that students are able to talk freely with friends and develop those social skills we do ask families to limit the times they eat lunch with their child to 2 times per week. Parents that are here for lunch or breakfast are not allowed in other areas on campus, such as walking students to classrooms after breakfast or lunch. Again, this is to limit visitors on campus and to comply with all safety procedures to keep our children safe.
When you have a scheduled parent conference, the teacher will meet you in the office and escort you to the classroom. After your conference the teacher or another staff member will escort you to the office or the front patio.
