What is PBIS?

Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) is a schoolwide framework that, according to national research, enhances student quality of life and reduces problem behaviors. By establishing this framework, schools are developing skills, making changes to school environments, acknowledging appropriate behavior, and using data to identify supports for students. PBIS Model Schools demonstrate a commitment to positive and equitable outcomes for all students. 

The Florida Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support Project (Florida PBIS) recognized Largo Middle School as a Gold Level Model PBIS school for the 2018-2019 school year.

• The Signature System and Quarterly Positive Incentive Events

What are Restorative Practices?

Restorative Practices are a mindset and way of work integrated into the fabric of our campus to focus on separating the student from their behavior and teaching skills while disciplining behavior. This is done through the following practices:

• Affective Language
• Reflection Logs
• Monday Morning Meetings
• Re/Integration Meetings
• Restorative Actions on Discipline Referrals

Our goal states: At Largo Middle, IB World School, we believe restorative approaches and PBIS provide equitable opportunities to deepen connections and relationships among individuals in our school community and facilitate high achievement for all students. We also believe that through the effective implementation of restorative practices and strong PBIS systems, students spend more time in class, which is a key factor in determining their educational success, and that teaching social and emotional and conflict resolution skills will positively affect behavior and improve performance in the building.
