New Reality - New Skills
July 15, 2020 | College News
Crystal Fields is in the Building Construction Technologies program at Pinellas Technical College St. Petersburg campus. She started the program in January with the goal of opening her own construction business in the future. This became her new reality. She likes fixing things with her hands and wants to rehabilitate structures within existing communities for those who live in the community.
Crystal is no stranger to career education. She is a 1998 graduate from the Business Software Applications program at the then (PTEC) St. Petersburg campus. She is currently using that education in her current job as a business analyst for a healthcare organization. She works 1PM to 9PM remotely.
Crystal wholeheartedly believes that this is the best program for women. “Even if you do not work in the industry, you will learn so much about home ownership and how to build, fix or repair that it will translate into money saved.”
Crystal appreciates Mr. Norris’s (Building Construction Technologies’ instructor) approach to teaching the programs occupation completion points (OCPs).
As a comparison of PTEC in 1998 and PTC in 2020, the school is very student oriented, there has been a lot of changes and she is surrounded by a group of people who are serious about their education.
Crystal is socially conscious about her community and is pursuing a new skill for a new reality. The Building Construction Technologies program is 1050 hours, which is approximately 11 months in duration.
