• All students at Elisa Nelson Elementary will attend a weekly 45-minute general music class.  During music class students will engage in a variety of activities including singing, playing instruments, reading music, moving to music, creating music, and learning about music theory, history, and technology.  Each grade level will participate in a concert once per year.

4th and 5th grade students will also be given the opportunity to participate in one of the following in-school music offerings:

    Blazer Chorus:

Blazer Chorus is a co-curricular class that meets during the first academic block once a week. Chorus is a performing ensemble of vocalists.  Chorus will prove to enhance your child’s musical experience by growing their individual voice, while also learning how to sing in an ensemble.  It is a year-long commitment; every member of the group is needed to support each other and to maintain the quality of the Chorus. Our Blazer Chorus performs several times throughout the year.  Any student who chooses to participate and completes the chorus contract will automatically become a member.  Chorus members may be chosen to audition for the Florida Music Educator’s Association’s All State Elementary Chorus and/or the Pinellas County Music Educator’s Association’s All County Elementary Chorus.

    Blazer Band:

The band program will meet as an enrichment during the first academic block once a week. During this time, students will learn to play a band instrument: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, and trombone will be offered.  Due to the limited number of instruments, the Blazer Band students will be chosen by a combination of musical talent shown in music class and a lottery system. Our Blazer Band performs several times throughout the year.

We also offer After-School Music Offering for 4th and 5th Grade Students:

    After-School Band Club:

This club is being offered to Blazer Band students, as an optional second band practice each week.  However, if your child chooses to participate in chorus during the school day, they may still be able to participate in the after-school band club.  There are two ways this is possible.  The first is if you can provide your child with their own instruments.  The second, is if I still have unassigned instruments after the Blazer Band is formed during the school day (this situation may be more unlikely, as band has grown in popularity).
