  • Important Information about Applying to CAST

    At the Center for Advancement of the Sciences and Technology at Bay Point Middle we strive to increase student interest, motivation and achievement in mathematics, science, technology and world languages. Engineering is naturally integrated throughout for a true STEM experience. Though located in South St. Petersburg, the school is a countywide magnet and as such students may only enter through the magnet application process.

    Academic Profile:

    The CAST program at Bay Point Middle School is an academically rigorous program in which students participate in advanced or accelerated math, science, social studies or language arts courses. In addition, students in this program participate in required elective courses which may include technology, world language, or the arts. Students who typically do well in this program earn mostly As and Bs on their report cards, maintaining a 3.0 average and earn a level 3 or higher on their FSA mathematics and language arts assessments. Students new to Pinellas County Schools who do not have an FSA score, can look at their standardized test scores from their previous school to determine if they have at least a 5 stanine or a percentile rank of 42 or higher in both reading/language arts and mathematics.

    Once enrolled in the program, students must attend all classes regularly, maintain a C average in each class for each semester as well as abide by the Code of Student Conduct. Falling below these expectations may result in placement on probation and/or dismissal from the program.     For the 2022-23 School Year:

    Late Application Period - March 21, 2022 - December 31, 2022

     

     Step 1 Before You Go Online to Apply - GET A PCS PARENT PORTAL USER ID AND PASSWORD


    • If you do not already have a User ID and password for any child in your family, go to a nearby school and ask to get one. Bring photo ID with you.
    • If you already have a User ID and password you don’t need another one. Only one User ID and password is needed per family, even if you have more than one child.
    • If you misplaced your User ID and password, visit a nearby school and bring your photo ID.


    Step 2 - APPLY ONLINE USING YOUR PARENT PORTAL USER I.D. AND PASSWORD


    • Using your home computer, the community computer at a school or other community locations, log on to the Student Reservation System (SRS) at reservation.pcsb.org
    • Enter your program selections from the list of programs.
    REMEMBER: Non-PCS students or students who were not in PCS during 4th grade must deliver all documentation of program eligibility, to the school office(s).
     

    Step 3 REGISTRATION


    Families who have been invited to Bay Point and are new to Pinellas County school’s will need to register their child. You will need:

    • Child's Original Birth certificate
    • Child's Social Security card
    • Most recent report card and IEP (if applicable)
    • Two Proofs of residency (utility bill)
    • Florida Certification of Immunization 
    • Current physical exam certificate

    * If your student is already in a Pinellas County public school, those records will transfer with your student.

    Also all students who participate in Bay Point Middle magnet program must sign the Magnet Commitment Agreement.

    Parents are also strongly encouraged to register to volunteer as well.
