5th Avenue Construction
SPHS Families
We have been informed by the Florida Department of Transportation that median construction will be happening on 5th Avenue North beginning on Monday, August 26th. Westbound 5th Avenue North from the interstate overpass to 28th Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic for the duration of the construction, which is currently slated to last all of next week (8/26-8/30). An anticipated effect of the lane closure will be increased traffic congestion on 5th Avenue North and will definitely affect student drop off and pick up. We recommend making alternate travel route plans during this time.
The 5th Avenue North traffic lane closure will impact morning drop off and afternoon pickup traffic patterns for St. Petersburg High School. Devil’s Drive will still be open for drop off and pick up, but we will be moving cars all the way down 27th Street to 9th Avenue North to keep traffic moving and stay away from 5th Avenue delays. Students may have to walk a farther distance between the school access and your vehicle. Consider utilizing side avenues for meeting your student in the afternoon to avoid using 5th Avenue during construction. School and neighborhood access from 9th Avenue North is recommended to avoid 5th Avenue. We appreciate your support as we navigate the anticipated construction traffic.
