• Information and Links For Uniforms

If this is your first time here, please read all of the material below before you start ordering your first CAP Uniforms.

    Alternative Uniforms

Every Cadet needs to have an alternative to their regular uniform.

Until new cadets get the ABU, and eventually their Blues Uniforms, they will wear an alternative uniform that complies with the School's dress code.  For the purposes of their uniform grade, the alternative uniform will count for credit if worn completely and correctly. Once cadets have earned the priviledge of wearing their ABU uniform then they will be expected to wear the ABU.

The elements of the alternative uniform described below can be purchased anywhere. The links provided are only examples. This uniform will consist of:

A white polo shirt (School uniform appropriate. Must be tucked into the pants)

A White V-Neck T-Shirt (You will need these for the Blues Uniform as well)

Tan Kaki long pants (not shorts)  Boys / Girls

Black Belt - Boys / Girls

    White quarter socks (Or Higher)

Black Sneakers or Tennis Shoes (All Black/No colored insignia etc.) (See also PT Gear)

Veteran Cadets may wear this uniform for partial uniform grade credit if there is some valid reason that they cannot wear their CAP assigned uniform of the day.  If a cadet knows in advance that they will not be able to wear their UOD then the parents should contact the commander to advise and set up an arrangement for getting the cadet back into uniform.  This is the only way that cadets will receive their partial credit for wearing the Alternative Uniform.

The ABU and Blues (Class B) uniforms

When you go to this link below you will find pictures and direct links to purchase the CAP clothing that we will wear at the school with some minor exceptions.

Only cadet executive staff will wear the Navy colored ball cap.  All others will wear the Flat-Top ABU Uniform Cap.

Below the link you will find other important information that you will certainly have questions about after you start looking through the Order Sheet.

Remember that for now, you only want to be concerned with purchasing the ABU uniform.  We will advise you when it is time to start ordering the Class B Uniform.

    Additional Information:

Shirt Size Information: (This information was provided to us by Vanguard)

For male shirt sizes, if the stomach exceeds the chest, then purchase the same size shirt as the pants

For female shirt sizes, if the participant's bust size is less then a "D" cup, then purchase a smaller shirt than the pant size

    Riggers Belt Information:

You may find it hard to locate the proper size of belt for your cadet.  These are not one size fits all.  I am providing THIS LINK to a google search for a Tan Military Rigger Belt In Youth Sizes.  You can find more sizes and better prices in most cases than you can find on Vanguard for this item. Just ensure that the one you order matches the coloring of the belt on the Order Sheet.

    Boots:

A picture of the proper high top boot is on the Order Sheet page (see link above for CAP Uniform Order Sheet).  You do not have to purchase the boots at Vanguard.  THIS LINK will take you to a google search for combat style high top boots.  They come in many styles.  Avoid Patent Leather and Corfam (No mirror shine boots).  Just make sure they are high top.

Here is a picture of my own ABU uniform that shows the proper placement of the Civil Air Patrol and Name Tapes, Florida Wing Patch (Optional), and the Squadron Patch (Also Optional).  We will provide the Squadron Patch to each cadet for free when available.

    Socks:

Plain Black (mid calf or higher) socks with no emblems or lettering are mandatory.  The socks must protrude past the tops of the high top boots. These socks can be purchased wherever you buy socks.

Placement of Patches and Name Tapes:

Note that the Florida Wing Patch is down one half an inch from the seam and centered on the left shoulder of the wearer.  The Unit Patch is centered on the right pocket of the wearer below the pocket flap.  In some instances our cadet's tops are so small that the top of the Unit Patch may be slightly under the pocket flap, but we would rather that than to cross the seam at the bottom of the pocket.

The Civil Air Patrol Tape goes over the wearer's heart (wearer's left side).

You can use any alterations shop you feel comfortable with, however, make sure that they feel comfortable applying the tapes and patches to regulation. I am attaching the wording from the regulation below the following picture that describes the exact placement of each tape and patch for this uniform.  You can take that information with you to the alterations shop. I have information on alterations shops that are close by the school that we have used in the past and will supply that information to you upon request.

    My ABU

5.1.1.1.2.1. Nametapes. Nametapes will be light silver block lettering on dark blue background. The nametapes will be worn immediately above the upper ABU coat pockets. Cut off or fold tapes to match pocket width. The “Civil Air Patrol” nametape will be worn above the upper ABU pocket on the wearer’s left. The last name nametape will be worn above the upper ABU pocket on the wearer’s right.

5.1.1.1.2.2. Left Sleeve. One full color, wing/region/national patch may be sewn to the coat on the left sleeve ½ inch below the shoulder seam reflecting the individual’s current unit of assignment. Wing Commanders may make wear of the wing patch mandatory for members of their wings.

5.1.1.1.2.3. Breast Pocket (optional). One full color patch authorized in Attachment 4, with the exception of the Emergency Services Patch and Ranger tabs, may be sewn to the shirt centered on the lower portion of the breast pocket(s) between left and right edges and bottom of flap and pocket of ABU shirt, using the column currently authorized for the BDU. These patches are optional for wear

NOTE:  We will wear our Squadron Patch on the right pocket of the wearer. (As showin in the photo above)

    The Blues (Class B) Uniform

This uniform is typically referred to as the "Air Force Blues Uniform"

The following is a link to a page from CAPR 39-1 that shows what the uniform consists of and how it looks when completely set up. Since there is a voucher given to most families at the time of the cadets first promotion, we will have families hold off on ordering these items until that time.  We will make sure you know well in advance.
