Criminal Justice Academy Extracurricular Activities

In addition to being involved in clubs, activities, and sports throughout Pinellas Park High School, there are extracurricular activities that are only open to students who are in the Criminal Justice Academy.

Mock Trial Team

Mock Trial is a great opportunity for students to be a part of a trial simulation that allows students to take on the roles of attorneys and witnesses. The team attends weekend practices from September to March in order to prepare for a state competition in Orlando I where they try the case against other judicial districts from the state.

Debate Club

The Great Debate is a great way for students to become involved with a debate team that focuses on the Lincoln/Douglas debate style. Students in teams of two are chosen in January and have two-three months to prepare their arguments for a surprise topic. The preliminary rounds are judged by local attorneys and the final round by circuit judges.

SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA is a national career and technical student organization serving high school and college students enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled, and service occupations. The team most  recently won third place in the United States for Crime Scene Investigation and 13th in Criminal Justice.

Special Operations Club (CJA Spec Ops)

The Criminal Justice Academy Special Operations Club provides extra hans-on training opportunities in criminal justice related fields to supplement standard CJA coursework. The mission is to gain knowledge of the criminal justice field through hands-on learning activities, to prepare for future careers, to provide opportunities for involvement, to build community partnerships, and to have fun. Any student in CJA has the opportunity to join the Spec Ops club.

Law Honor Society

Law Honor Society is a service club which requires our members to have and maintain a 3.0 unweighted GPA u and a 3.5 GPA in their Criminal Justice classes. Students must have 50 community service hours and no out of school suspensions.   LHS students participate in service projects throughout the year including serving food at a soup kitchen, raising money through CJA sweatshirt sales for the CJA scholarship, donating clothing to Clothes to Kids, canned food drive, and preparing care packages for former CJA graduates who are in the military service.
