Weekly Update 5/24/24

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

I hope you have a great weekend!

There is no school Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day. The last day of school is Wednesday, May 29th dismissal is at 2:10pm.

 

Please arrange to come to school and pick up any unused medication, including inhalers and epinephrine devices. Any unclaimed medication will be disposed of on Wednesday, May 29th at 12:00 noon with no exceptions.

 

Current 6th and 7th grade students that have a school computer, please be sure to complete the renewal process for your device prior to the last day of school. If you need assistance, please bring your computer and see Ms. Conklin.

 

Parents if you currently don’t have a parent Focus account, please go to Focus and create one before the school year ends so you will be ready to complete all required digital forms for the 24-25 school year.

Weekly Update 5/19/24

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

I hope you are having a great weekend!

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week are final exams. Please see the school website and/or Facebook page for the exam schedule.

 

Friday was the last day for students to bring backpacks to school. Students are permitted to bring a small purse/small fanny pack/lunchbox. The last day for morning and afternoon tutoring (ELP) is Friday, May 24th.

Weekly Update 5/12/24

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

I hope you are having a great weekend!

FAST testing is continuing this week with 8th grade Civics, 7th grade Math, 8th grade Science, Algebra and Geometry. You can also visit our school website for the May testing schedule. It is of the utmost importance that students attend school daily for testing. Please speak with your student about the importance of taking these tests and encourage them to do their best. I am so proud of our students! Way to go Thunderbirds!

FAST testing is continuing this week with Physical Science Honors, 6th grade Math, Pre-Algebra and 7th grade Civics. You can also visit our school website for the May testing schedule. It is of the utmost importance that students attend school daily for testing. Please speak with your student about the importance of taking these tests and encourage them to do their best. I am so proud of our students this past week and how seriously they took the Reading test. Way to go Thunderbirds!

Come cheer on our Thunderbird athletes at our flag football game on Thursday at Pinellas Park High. The game starts at 5:00pm.

 

There will be a meeting for students going on the Cambridge EPCOT Trip on Tuesday, April 23rd in the media center at 4:15pm. Parents are welcome to attend. The meeting should last about 20 minutes.

8th Grade Message 4/12/24

Good Afternoon 8th grade Families, 

As the school year is coming to a close, I wanted to provide you a few updates. 

8th grade laptops will be collected starting next week through Language Arts classes. Students will need to turn in their laptop and charger. If they lost the charger, it is $25 for replacement paid by cash or money order. If your student has a school issued laptop please ensure they bring it to campus following the schedule listed below-

I hope you are having a great weekend! Just a reminder that dress code is continuing to be enforced so please ensure your student is arriving to school on time daily and in proper dress code daily.

Monday, April 8th is the last day to order a school yearbook. Use the link in Clever or on our school website to purchase a yearbook.

 

We are having a virtual PTSA meeting on Thursday, April 11th at 5:00pm. The link to the meeting will be posted on our school website and Facebook page.

Summer Bridge registration has started. Summer Bridge Middle School programs will take place June 3-June 27th. You can register your students through your Focus Parent Account. If you need assistance, please contact us at school. Directions are posted on the school website.

Yearbooks are currently on sale-use the link in Clever or on our school website to purchase a yearbook.

 

We will be having a school dance on Thursday after school from 4:15pm-6:00pm in the cafeteria. We will be selling tickets during lunch Monday-Wednesday only for $5.00. Tickets will not be sold at the door and students will need to purchase them ahead of time. Concessions will also be on sale for $2.00 per item.

 

Pinellas Park Middle School is hosting a mural camp July 8th-July 11th. Sign up to attend using the QR code on our school website or Facebook page and be part of the creation of our new school mural! Busch Gardens Information

 

The 8th grade Busch Gardens Grad Night is May 10th after school. Information and permission slips will be coming home with 8th grade students on Monday.

The Tampa Bay Rays are again offering discounted tickets to students, staff, and their families as part of 2024 Pinellas County School’s Spirit night with the Rays. This year the Pinellas County School’s night is Saturday, April 13th, at 4:10 pm, vs. the San Francisco Giants. Order forms have been sent home with interested students. The deadline to turn in all orders to the front office is March 27th.

In honor of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday PPMS is participating in a Dr. Seuss Book Drive for the patients at All Children's Hospital in St. Pete. Families can drop off new Dr. Seuss books from now through February 29th at the front office.

 

Come out and show your support to our Thunderbird track athletes at Pinellas Park High School on Tuesday, February 27th at 4:30pm.

 

Leap Away Leap Day at our Spirit Night at SkyZone this Thursday, February 29th from 4:00pm-8:00pm. A portion of the proceeds will come back to PPMS. 

Pinellas County Schools will host Experience PCS on Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Clearwater High.  You and your family are invited to a day of family fun. The free event will feature music, games, art, STEM, and academic and athletic competitions. Food will also be available for purchase. Learn more at www.pcsb.org/experience

Just a reminder that there is no school for students on Monday, February 19th. We look forward to seeing our students on Tuesday on time, in dress code and ready to learn.

Applications for PCS Summer Camps are underway. Options include STEM, culinary arts, career exploration, music, theater and artificial intelligence. Families can apply for camps by visiting Focus and accessing the Student Reservation System. Parents may choose to apply for several camps in case their top choice fills quickly. Camp representatives will contact families the first week of March to invite students who have secured seats. Most summer camps will take place in July. Space is limited so please apply early.

Weekly Update 2/11/24

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

I hope you are having a great weekend!

Come cheer on our Thunderbird Track Athletes this Wednesday, February 14th at Osceola High School.

We will be having a Teacher/Student Basketball game on Thursday after school until 5:15pm. This is a PBIS reward event, students can purchase tickets using their Thunderbucks in the PBIS rewards app on Clever.

Valentine’s Day is Wednesday, students are not permitted to bring stuffed animals, balloons, candy, flowers etc. to school. If students bring these items, they will be confiscated and held in the office and returned at the end of the school day.

Just a reminder there will be no school for students on Friday, February 16th and Monday, February 19th.

This week we are having a spirit week in celebration of National School Counseling & Student Services Week to promote mental health awareness and college/career readiness! All spirit days must be within PPMS dress code. Please visit the school website or Facebook page for daily themes.

6th grade parents:  Is you scholar ready for 7th grade?  Jump to the head of the class and get the required Tdap vaccine now.  Contact your pediatrician or your local Department of Health Clinic. 

We are having our next School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting on Wednesday at 4:30pm. All are welcome to attend.

Report cards were distributed on Thursday. If your student needs academic tutoring reach out to your grade level school counselor to sign them up for ELP.

Weekly Update 1/14/24

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

Just a reminder there is no school for students tomorrow, Monday, January 15th in observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We look forward to seeing the students Tuesday morning on time, in dress code and ready to learn.

 

The District Application Program (DAP) window is open now through January 19th. We are currently accepting applications into our Cambridge program for next school year. 8th grade families-this is the time to apply for the magnet programs for high school. If you have any questions, reach out to Ms. Diaz in the 8th grade office.

 

We will be hosting our #1 seeded boy's basketball team’s playoff game on Thursday, January 18th after school. We hope to see you there cheering on our Thunderbird athletes.

Weekly Update 1/7/24

Good Evening Thunderbird Families, 

Happy New Year! I hope you’ve had a relaxing and restful break with your family. Classes resume tomorrow Monday, January 8th. Please be sure your student is on time, in dress code and ready to learn.

Please have your student take a minute and check their schedule in Focus. All students will report to their 1st period class tomorrow morning, for some students this may be a new class. Students will receive a copy of their second semester schedule in 1st period tomorrow.

School picture retakes will be Tuesday, January 9th. If your student will be participating in retakes and had their picture taken in the fall, please have them bring their picture packet with them to school on Tuesday for the retakes.

We will be hosting a District Application Program (DAP) Night for our 8th grade families on Tuesday, January 9th at 6:00pm. Join us to discuss your student’s high school options and get assistance in applying for the District Application Programs.

Cambridge families, there are still 20 spots left for the upcoming EPCOT trip. Students can bring money and pay for the trip with Mr. Shaw starting tomorrow until they are sold out.

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

I hope you are having a great weekend and staying dry! I want to give a huge shoutout to our students for the excellent gains they made in Reading and Math on PM 2. Monday through Wednesday this week our students will be taking their midterms exams. Midterm Schedule

This week we have a home basketball game after school on Monday. Tuesday evening, we have our Red Robin Spirit Night at the Tyrone location. Come have dinner and support our school at the same time! A portion of the proceeds comes back to PPMS!

PM 2 testing started last week and will continue through Thursday. We are very proud of our student’s growth on their reading PM tests! PM 2 testing will begin on Tuesday, December 5th and run through December 14th. Student attendance is of the utmost importance. Please ensure your student has a good night’s sleep and arrives to school on time for testing.

On Thursday, December 7th we will be hosting our PPMS Talent Show at 5:30pm. Admission is $2.00 or a canned food donation.

The ESE Career, College and Life Fair will be held on November 29th, from 6:00-7:30 pm at Pinellas Technical College, Clearwater Campus, Building 10. The Fair is open to families with students with disabilities from ages 12 thru 22. The fair includes over 70 vendors from local colleges, agencies and Pinellas County School Departments. Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

Thank you to all the families that donated pies and other sweet treats for our Thankful for Teachers dessert day. It was greatly appreciated by all.

Basketball season starts this week with home games for the girls on Tuesday and Wednesday after school. Come cheer on our Thunderbird athletes.

Our first annual Pinellas Park Middle Spelling Bee is taking place this Thursday, November 16th at 5:30pm. All are welcome.

We are entering week two of our Texas Roadhouse Gift Card Fundraiser. The fundraiser goes through November 17th. 10% of the purchase will go back to Pinellas Park Middle School. Visit our school website or Facebook page for the QR code and link to order.

District Application Program Information 11/1/2023

Good Evening 8th Grade Families,

The district application period is quickly approaching. 8th-grade students will be receiving district application booklets today during their Social Studies class. They will be reviewing important dates, including the application period, discovery nights, and the upcoming DAP fair. The South County DAP Fair is taking place at Gibbs High School on November 2nd from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Included in the booklet students will receive is a brief description of high school programs in our county and information pertaining to DAP priorities. Please browse the booklet with your students and have conversations about desired high school programs to apply for come January. 

January 9th and January 16th, during the application period, we will be hosting a DAP application sessions to assist families with applying for high school programs and answer any DAP related questions. Please mark your calendar-more details will follow. 

If you have any questions regarding the DAP process, please get in touch with the 8th-grade office and ask for the grade-level counselor or assistant principal. Thank you for your continuous support as we prepare our students for high school and beyond.

Indoor Soccer 10/17/23

Hi Thunderbird Families,

Pinellas Park Middle School is happy to announce that we will be taking part in the District's Indoor Soccer Tournament!  We are very excited about this opportunity for our students and hope to have as many teams participate as possible.  Please see below for more details:

*Teams Consist of 5-6 students (Teams MUST be Co-Ed, with 2 Girls playing at all times) - TOURNAMENT DETAILS WILL COME OUT ASAP

* School Tournament will take place from 10/30-11/3 and will be organized and run by Mr. Denecke

*Winners will advance to the Area Tournament from 11/6-11/10 with the Finals being on 11/15 @ Safety Harbor Middle School

*Interested students must have:

             2. An Updated Physical

Weekend Update 10/15/23

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

Just a reminder there is no school for students tomorrow, October 16th. We are looking forward to seeing everyone Tuesday morning on time and in dress code. Remember hoodies are not permitted.

Our next PBIS rewards party will be the student faculty volleyball game Wednesday after school until 5:30pm. Students need to purchase their ticket by the end of the day Tuesday to attend. Students purchase the tickets through the PBIS store in Clever.

A reminder that school picture day is Tuesday, October 24th. Students should have brought home a picture day flyer. The picture day information and a link to order pictures online is also available on the school website.

National SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) Day is on Wednesday, October 18th. In honor of this day, the SAVE Club is asking everyone to wear orange to stand against violence. Students may wear an orange shirt or polo to participate. All shirts must be appropriate for school and have sleeves. Students should follow PPMS dress code for pants/shorts.

I hope you had a great week. School Picture day has been rescheduled and will take place on Tuesday, October 24th. Students are bringing home picture day information and the information is also posted on our school website under latest news.

Basketball tryouts begin Monday for the girls and 8th grade boys and Tuesday for 6th and 7th grade boys. Please visit the school website for more details.

Our 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday, October 11th.

As we are entering the final week of the grading period, please remind your student the importance of getting to class on time and prepared.

I hope you had a great weekend! Believe it or not, there are only two weeks left in the first grading period. Now would be a great time to connect with your student about their grades. Before and after school tutoring is up and running, please contact the appropriate grade level counselor if your student needs academic assistance.

Weekend Update 9/10/23  

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

We’ve had a busy week at PPMS with FAST PM 1 testing, our first home volleyball games, and our first ever cross-country meet. I am so proud of our students for exhibiting our SOAR expectations both in and out of the classroom. Please remember the importance of arriving at school on time and in dress code.

Our next cross-country meet is taking place on Thursday, September 14th at Taylor Park in Largo at 5pm. Come out and support our student athletes.

Vernon Photography will be taking school pictures on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Every student will be photographed. All students should be in PPMS dress code on picture day. Weekend Update 9/3/23

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

I hope all of you and your families made it through the storm with minimal damage.

Just a reminder that we have no school tomorrow, September 4th, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

We will continue to have FAST PM 1 testing on Tuesday, so please make sure your student has a good night’s sleep and breakfast.

Our Thunderbird sports are kicking off this week with home volleyball games on Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 4:45pm. Our first cross country meet will be on September 7th at 5:00pm at Boca Ciega High School. Come out and support our Thunderbird teams!

We have started our morning tutoring at 7:45am Monday-Friday. If your student needs academic assistance, drop them off at the front office at 7:45 Monday-Friday for tutoring.

Students will start in their new interest-based enrichment classes on Tuesday. All students will receive a new schedule with their updated enrichment class on Tuesday.

Sunday, September 24th is PCS Sprit Night with the Rays. Discounted tickets are available for the game and students will be receiving order forms on Tuesday. All money and orders are due no later than this Friday, September 8th. If your student is returning money and order forms, please have them bring it to the front office.

Weekend Update 8/27/23

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

Thank you to all the families that attended the 7th and 8th grade Back to School Night. It was great seeing our students sharing their school day with their family.

We will continue to have FAST PM 1 testing this week, so please make sure your student has a good night’s sleep and breakfast.

If your student has a school computer and has not brought it back to school to be renewed, please make sure they bring it on Monday and see Ms. Conklin, in the media center, to help renew it.

After Labor Day, students will be changing their enrichment course to their interest activity they have chosen. If your student has not completed the interest survey, please have them do so in Clever by Tuesday, August 29th.

Weekend Update 8/20/23

Good Evening Thunderbird Families,

I just wanted to share a few important things happening on campus this week. On Thursday, August 24th we will be having Back to School Night for 7th and 8th students and families at 6:00pm. You will have the opportunity to follow your students schedule and meet their teachers. Prior to the back-to-school night, we will be having a PTSA General Meeting at 5:00pm and our Title 1 Annual Meeting at 5:30pm. Both meetings will be in the media center and all are welcome.

If you have not completed your students back to school forms online, please do so as soon as possible. We are starting to distribute student laptops this week and the electronic opt in form on Focus has to be completed in order for your student to receive a laptop.

Students will take their first round of FAST testing for ELA and Math starting August 25th-September 1st.

Looking ahead-School Picture Day will be on Wednesday, September 20th. More information to come soon!
