Dress Code

    All students at Curtis Fundamental Elementary School will wear clothing that complies with the dress code in the Pinellas County School’s Code of Student conduct plus the additional requirements shown below. Students may be issued a warning/detention for violations of the dress code. Repeated violations will result in a referral to IAC.

    Tops

    Long or short-sleeved collared shirts, such as a polo, oxford or dress shirt, in any solid color with no designs or patterns except for a small logo or the school’s insignia; or a Curtis sponsored t-shirt.

    Coats, jackets, sweaters or other outer garments when appropriate due to weather conditions, except inside the classroom, where coats and jackets must be removed, unzipped or left open.

    Bottoms

    Uniform style pants, uniform style shorts, capris, skirts, skorts, or jumpers in the solid colors of navy blue or khaki; or plain, blue denim jeans (no rips, tears or patches on the jeans).

    All pants, jeans, capris or shorts must fit at the waist, must be worn on the waistline and cannot be in cargo, carpenter or flared styles

    All shorts, skirts, skorts or jumpers must be no shorter than mid-thigh in length or 3” above the knee.

    Solid color leggings or tights must be worn under skirts, polo dresses or jumpers.

    Footwear

    Shoes appropriate for physical activity with a closed toe and heel and rubber sole. No high heels, dress shoes, sandals, flip flops or Crocs. 

    Students must wear their hair in a neat and non-distracting manner without colored dyes.

    Students may wear the uniform of a nationally recognized youth organization, such as the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, on regular meeting days.

    Students may wear a costume or special clothing necessary for a school play or other school sponsored activity or event as permitted by the principal.

    It is strongly suggested for all field trip students wear a Curtis shirt.  

    Students’ parents or guardians may request a reasonable accommodation from the principal in writing to address a student’s disability, medical condition, or sincerely held religious belief.

    Implementation

    Students entering Curtis Fundamental during the school year shall be granted a grace period of fourteen (14) school days before being required to comply with the additional dress code requirements.

    No student shall be denied attendance at school or be otherwise penalized for failure to comply with the dress code due to financial hardship.
