Curtis Fundamental earns GOLD Recognition from The Alliance for A Healthier Generation
Thanks to everyone’s support, our school is receiving gold recognition through the Alliance for a Healthier Generation this fall in Washington, DC. Awards are granted each year at the bronze, silver and gold levels to schools that meet criteria in a number of categories to create a healthier environment for students, staff and families. As a result, we were featured by the USA TODAY as one of the top schools in the nation. We will keep you informed so that we can remain a gold school!
We were also recognized by the American Heart Association, City of Dunedin and Let’s Move Active Schools for being a healthy school. We are very proud that our P.E. program is receiving the 2016 Program Recognition Award at the annual Florida SHAPE conference this fall as well!!Welcome to P.E.!Our goal is to help find a variety of ways for your child to enjoy being physically active so that he or she will be able to get all of the physical, emotional, and social benefits that come to people that are physically active. This year we are implementing a new program called SPARK. SPARK (Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids) is program of the U.S. Department of Education. SPARK research has shown that students who participate in at least three 30 minute SPARK P.E. classes each week as well or better than others on standardized academic test scores! SPARK activities are inclusive, highly active, integrate academic and wellness concepts, and are fun for all students. Additionally, instructional units are designed to develop student’s motor, cognitive, and social skills.
Your child will have P.E. 3 days a week for 50 minutes each day. They are permitted and it is highly suggested that they bring a water bottle to P.E. Please label bottles with your child’s name. Hats can also be worn but only outside during P.E. class.
If your child is sick or injured and needs to sit out of physical education, please send a note. If it is more than 2 days, a doctor’s note is required.
We have many wonderful events that will happen throughout the school year. Please look for our monthly newsletter to keep you updated and informed about what is happening in P.E. We will need volunteers and will inform you of the events before they occur. If you are interested in volunteering during recess, please contact the school and let us know!!
