Sunshine State Young Readers Awards / Battle of the Books
Curtis library promotes a lifelong love of reading by encouraging students to read the 15 Sunshine State Award titles and through participation in the Pinellas County Schools Battle of the Books program. The Battle of the Books program is introduced to students in grades 3-5. Students are given several months to read the titles and this year the qualifying test will be given in February to determine teams. Questions are based on plots, settings and characters. School battles and subsequent regional battles determine which school teams will be represented at the district battle in May. The first-place team carries home a traveling trophy to house at its school until the next year’s battle.PTA purchases a set of these books for every 3rd - 5th grade classroom. Here is the List for the 2023-2024 School and District Elementary Battle of the Books- The Area 51 Files by Julie Buxbaum
