• Good Evening Highlanders, this is Mr. Vasallo Principal at DHMS.

Credit Recovery Courses are open now for students who failed first semester courses.  Credit recovery is available Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4:10-5:10 and on Saturdays from 8:00-11:00 am.

Last week our guidance counselors visited classrooms to review course requests for next year.  Please talk to your 6th And 7th grade students about their course request sheets and make sure they turn them in to their counselor:

    Boscoma@pcsb.org – 6th grade STEAM, 7th grade STEAM last name A-L

    Mcdonnellk@pcsb.org – 7th grade STEAM M-Z

    Northcuttc@pcsb.org – 6th and 7th grade CGS

8th graders are reminded that the second installment of the Gradventure payments is due at this time.  Please bring your payment to Mrs. Makryllos or Dr. Bergstrom.  The third installment will be due March 7th.  Due to popular demand, we have opened up another bus for the 8th grade Gradventure Field Trip. Students may turn in their forms and payment to Mrs. Makryllos or Dr. Bergstrom.  We have 23 spots open on the 4th bus, so sign up today!

DHMS is hosting a Casa Tina Night Tonight from 5:00pm-10:00pm at the Casa Tina in Downtown Dunedin.  A percentage of sales from the night will be donated to the school.

In sports, Track tryouts started today and continue tomorrow and Wednesday at 4:15.  Students must have all paperwork completed in order to participate in tryouts.

Valentine’s Day is this week.  Please note that we want to minimize distractions, so we are asking students to leave candy, balloons, stuffed animals, and other gifts at home.  Students who bring these items will not be allowed to carry them around during the school day.  Additionally we have noticed that particularly our 6th graders have been bringing kool-aid and other drink sweetening packets to school.  These are not allowed and will be confiscated.  Help us maintain our learning environment.

Our Saturday FSA and EOC Boot Camp continues this week.  Boot Camp sessions will focus on preparation for the end of the year assessments in May.  This week the Boot Camp will focus on Math and Language Arts.  For a full list of Boot Camp sessions and topics, see the flyer on our website.

We have published our End of the Year Testing dates on the front page of our website.  As our parents make plans for the end of the school year, we want you to know that our testing season runs right up until the end of the school year.  Please make sure you plan accordingly so that your student does not miss out on the State Testing window.

Please note that next Monday, February 18th is a non-student day.

Finally, each Tuesday morning, Spectrum Bay News 9 will feature an A+ Teacher who is inspiring and leading students across the Bay Area. Bay News 9 has asked students or their parents to nominate an A+ Teacher. Nominations can be submitted by email at teachers@charter.com. Parents and students should send contact information and a short explanation of why their educator is an A+ Teacher.

That’s all for this week at Dunedin Highland Middle School, where we conduct ourselves with Respect, Excellence, and Pride!  Go Highlanders!
