8th Grade Assistant Principal - JoAnna Bernal
Ms. Bernal has been an educator with Pinellas County Schools for over 15 years. She is a Pinellas County native, and a graduate of Pinellas Park High School. She previously served in the United States Air Force, and returned to her home state of Florida to begin her career as a science teacher. She obtained her gifted teaching certification while at Madeira Beach MS. She moved on to serve as an Assistant Principal at Pinellas Park MS, Morgan Fitzgerald MS, and Dunedin Highland MS. Ms. Bernal oversees the CGS Magnet program, ESE and English departments, and student curriculum and scheduling at DHMS.

7th Grade Assistant Principal - Erika SunMs. Sun was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She attended Northwestern University in Chicago, and obtained her Master's degree from Columbia University in New York. She has been an educator for nearly a decade; she started as a science teacher, Advanced Placement program lead, and testing coordinator at several New York City high schools. She became the Assistant Principal of STEM and Testing at Fiorello H. Laguardia High School for Music and Art before moving to Pinellas County with her family. She loves working with the teachers and students in 7th grade, and is excited to be a part of the DHMS community. Ms. Sun oversees the Science and Electives departments, testing, clubs, and activities at our school.

6th Grade Assistant Principal - William Muhlstadt
DHMS is excited to welcome Mr. Muhlstadt as our 6th grade Assistant Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. William Muhlstadt is proud to join the leadership team at Dunedin Highland Middle School. A lifelong Pinellas County resident and graduate of the University of South Florida, Mr. Muhlstadt brings a deep commitment to serving the community that raised him. He began his career teaching Civics at Meadowlawn Middle School, where he quickly became known for his strong relationships with students, collaborative leadership style, and commitment to schoolwide success. During his time at Meadowlawn, he was honored as the school’s Emerging Teacher of the Year and actively contributed to campus initiatives supporting instruction, staff development, and student achievement. Mr. Muhlstadt earned his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from USF and is passionate about growing others, supporting positive behavior systems, and helping every student succeed. He is excited to bring his energy, humility, and student-centered leadership to DHMS. Mr. Muhlstadt is over the Social Studies department, safety and operations, and athletics program at DHMS.
