Mission: The mission of this program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to fill the needs of jewelry industry employers.

Jewelry Design and Repair consists of two programs: Jewelry Design and Repair 1 – J450600 (900 hours) and Jewelry Design and Repair 2 – J450700 (750 hours).

Students must complete Jewelry Design and Repair 1 or demonstrate mastery of the program outcomes prior to enrollment in Jewelry Design and Repair 2.

This program consists of a planned sequence of courses:

Jewelry Design and Repair 2

Casting/Rubber Molding - Course PMT0643 (150 hours) – This course will focus on the Lost Wax Casting process using specific wax carving and molding techniques to create rings, pendants, earrings, and jewelry components.

Jewelry Repair - Course PMT0642 (150 hours) – Content includes hands-on experiences in repairing rings, chains, prongs, and hinges made of various metals.

Stone Setter - Course PMT0632 (150 hours) – Students will learn fabricating techniques to create calibrated setting for round, oval, square, heart, emerald cut, marquise, and pear shaped stones.

CAD/CAM Jewelry Designer- Course PMT0635 (300 hours) – Students will learn the process of designing jewelry using the RhinoGold CAD/CAM program as a designing tool

Industry Certification(s):

• First level Jewelers of America (JA) Bench Professional Certification – JA Certified Beginner Bench Jeweler (CBBJ)*
• Second level JA Bench Professional Certification – JA Certified Bench Jeweler (CBJ)*
• Diamond Council of America (DCA) Beginning Jewelry Sales Certification*

*NOTE: These certifications are not included in the cost of the program; the program prepares students to successfully pass these certifications if they choose to pursue professional designations.

Minimum Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirement:  70%

Minimum Attendance Requirement:  70%

Basic Skills Exit Requirement for Program Completion:  Student's competency in computation (mathematics) and communication (reading/language arts) is assessed; required basic skills grade levels are: Computation - 9 and Communication - 9.
