Public Works Cadet I - Course ETC0003 (150 hours) – Content includes an introduction to the field of public works, career exploration in public works, basic computer literacy, and employability skills.
Career exploration in this Cadet I includes the specialties of potable water treatment, potable water distribution, wastewater treatment, wastewater collections, stormwater management, equipment maintenance, technical design and drafting, solid waste disposal, and parks/buildings/grounds maintenance.
Public Works Cadet II - Course ETC0004 (150 hours) – Content includes a further understanding of utilities, further career exploration, and people skills.
Career exploration in Cadet II includes the specialties of equipment operations, traffic operations, and natural gas.
Public Works Cadet III - Course ETC0005 (150 hours) – Content includes hand-on experience obtained through an externship as well as an introduction to ethics, legal responsibilities, and skills needed to start, keep and advance in their employment in the field of public works.
Special Admission Requirements: This program requires an applicant to be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, and a valid Florida driver’s license.
Industry Certification(s): You will have the opportunity to obtain the following certifications provided you meet the program’s deadlines and pass the respective certification examination.
- Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (FDOT)
- OSHA – Construction – 10 Hour Training
- Confined Space Entry
- Trench and Excavation Safety
- Personal Protective Equipment
- FEMA Emergency Management (Various)
- Defensive Driving
- Forklift Certification
- CPR/AED/First Aid
- Pinellas County Landscape Best Management Practice
Minimum Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirement: 70%
Minimum Attendance Requirement: 70%
Basic Skills Entrance/Exit Requirements: Student's competency in computation (mathematics) and communication (reading/language arts) is pre-assessed; required basic skills grade levels are: Computation - 9 and Communication - 9.
