What is Reading Assistant?
Reading Assistant functions like a one-on one tutor for children, coaching them to improve their reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Reading Assistant software uses speech recognition technology to help guide your child through reading selections. To use the software, your child will be using a headset with a microphone so his/her oral reading can be recorded. As your child reads aloud, Reading Assistant listens and monitors for signs of difficulty. The program will intervene with assistance when your child is challenged by a word. After your child has read a selection, he or she will be able to listen to their recording. Vocabulary words that they may have had trouble with are highlighted in the reading selection so they may be reviewed and practiced before the child reads the selection again.
We recommend your child uses Reading Assistant 30 minutes/day for 2 days per week. |
