6th Grade: Students in 6th grade are required to take a full semester of Physical Education and a full semester of Health Education.
PE: Our 6th grade physical education classes are all course M/J Fitness. The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to become healthy and physically active for a lifetime. This course addresses both the health and skill-related components of physical fitness which are critical for students' success. Health: 6th grade Health is split into four main topics covered over approximately 18 weeks. The topics are Mental Health, Substance Abuse Prevention, Human Sexuality, and Personal Health. Development
of positive decision-making skills is emphasized along with the study of
physical, emotional, and social growth changes during adolescence.
7th Grade: Students in 7th grade are required to take a full semester of Physical Education. We offer two courses for 7th graders. The courses are M/J Comprehensive PE 7/8 and M/J Team Sports. The purpose of Team Sports is to develop the physical skills necessary to be competent in many forms of movement, knowledge of team sports concepts such as offensive and defensive strategies and tactics, and appropriate social behaviors within a team or group setting. The integration of fitness concepts throughout the content is critical to the success of the course. Comprehensive PE 7/8 combines concepts and skills from all four 7th and 8th grade curriculums which include Outdoor Pursuits and Aquatics, Team Sports, Individual and Dual Sports, and Extreme and Alternative Sports.
7.5/8th Grade: Students in 7.5/8th Grade are required to take a full semester of Physical Education and one full semester of Health Education.
PE: Our 7.5/8th grade physical education classes are all M/J Extreme and Alternative Sports courses. The purpose of this course is to provide the skills, knowledge, and motivation necessary for participation in non-traditional forms of physical activity. The integration of fitness concepts throughout the content is critical to student success in this course and in the development of a healthy physically active lifestyle.
Health: 7.5/8th grade health is split into four main topics covered over approximately18 weeks. The topics are Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Human Sexuality, and Personal Health. Decision-making
skills and basic understanding of human sexuality, substance abuse prevention,
character education and personal wellness are heavily emphasized.
8.5/9th Grade: Students in 8.5/9th Grade earn a high school credit for Physical Education classes. They are a full semester which is approximately 18 weeks. We typically offer Team Sports 1, Team Sports 2, and Weight Lifting courses.
