The Gifted Program at Cypress Woods Elementary is an integrated curriculum model that includes advanced academics, critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, affective instruction and research.
Our gifted program is a pull-out program in which students are in the gifted classroom with Mrs. Paulson and Mrs. Wilson, gifted education endorsed teachers. The students in this program learn and practice higher-level thinking skills.
Students participate in collaborative problem-solving in the areas of math, science, social studies and language arts. Thinking skills such as Edward de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats and CoRT thinking strategies are taught and utilized as well as research skills via the IIM (Independent Investigation Model).
Each year the students choose topics to research from a thematic unit of study.
