English Language Arts
-
English Language Arts instruction at Jamerson is aligned to the Florida Standards. Students read stories and literature, as well as more complex texts that provide facts and background knowledge in science and social studies. Students are asked questions that push them to refer back to what they’ve read. This stresses critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that are required for success in college, career, and life.
Our students read about science concepts that support understanding in engineering, helping them to make meaningful connections throughout the day. Foundational language and phonics skills are taught in kindergarten through fifth grade to support our growing readers and authors.
Jamerson teachers collaborate to develop integrated units of study that meet the needs of every child.
The photo gallery below shows some of our fourth graders taking a BITE into informational text for Shark Week as they focus on central idea, details, text features, text structures, and author’s claim.
