My name is Heather Peters, and I am the Assistant Principal of Douglas L. Jamerson, Jr. Elementary. I am very excited to join the Jamerson team!
This is my 1st year as an Assistant Principal in Pinellas County, but I have 3 years prior experience as a Principal in South Dakota. I graduated from Mount Marty College in Watertown, SD with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. I continued my education at the University of Sioux Falls and received first a Master of Education degree in K-12 Reading and then a Master of Education degree for K-12 Educational Leadership.
Overall, this is my 20th year in education. I was a classroom teacher for fourth and fifth grade as well as a kindergarten through third grade reading teacher. I also spent four years working for the South Dakota Department of Education as a Literacy Coach who worked with teachers across the state to help them implement comprehensive literacy.
Throughout my career I have discovered that each child is a unique individual that is able to thrive in a warm, caring, and exciting school. As a school leader, I am committed to contributing to that environment by encouraging lifelong learning, strong parent/school relationships, academic excellence, respectful collaboration, and open communication. We are going to have an amazing journey this year working together to meet the needs of all students!
