    Mission: The mission of this program is to prepare students for employment as optometric assistants, opticians (dispensing), or other healthcare support workers.

    Program H170705 consists of a planned sequence of courses.

    Foundations of Vision Care - Course OPT0720 (102 Hours) - Content includes knowledge of the healthcare delivery system; legal and ethical responsibilities; communication and effective use of interpersonal skills; health and vision concepts; understanding of prescriptions; workplace safety and security procedures; infection control procedures; response to emergency situations; information technology applications in the vision care office; and, employability skills.

    Optometric Assistant 1 - Course OPT0721 (336 Hours) - Content includes business management techniques; and, delivery of optical devices.

    Optometric Assistant 2 - Course OPT0722 (642 Hours) - Content includes basic ocular anatomy and physiology; reporting and recording patient information; procedures used in visual testing; special procedures; and, contact lenses.

    Minimum Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirement:  70%

    Minimum Attendance Requirement:  70%

    Basic Skills Entrance/Exit Requirements:  Student's competency in reading, math and language is pre-assessed, using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).  Required basic skills grade levels are: Reading-11, Math-9, and Language-11.
