Elephant Truck Design Challenge

2nd graders research how scientists and engineers help animals, including Pierre the Penguin at the California Academy of Sciences and Winter the Dolphin at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. They work as biomedical engineers to design a prosthetic for an elephant without a trunk.

Hat Design Challenge

1st graders answer the question, How do engineers design solutions to problems?, by designing hats that won't fall off in the wind. They utilize the Jamerson Design Process to Plan, Design, Check and Share their solutions.

Rocket Design Challenge

This is a school wide challenge for our Fall Engineering Day. The 4th and 5th graders lead the challenge, with every student in all grade levels designing their own rocket.

Skyscraper Design Challenge

4th graders design the tallest tower using only spaghetti and masking tape.

Lego Tower Design Challenge

1st graders design a Lego Tower that is at least 30cm tall, has a color pattern, and will stand up in a strong gust of wind. They work on engineering teams and use the Jamerson Design Process.

Little Things Matter

Students collected change to prove that a little bit of change at a time, when put together, can turn into a lot of money...AND can make a difference. Classes selected a worthy cause to donate the change they collected.

Lunar Habitats

5th grade students compare basic needs of humans on Earth compared to the moon. They design a lunar mission and habitat.

Students use Legos to learn effective communication skills during The Nature of Science and Engineering Unit

Teamwork 1st Grade

5th Graders study famous bridges and various bridge types. They investigate beam and suspension bridges, calculate force and equilibrium, and design a model bridge to hold at least 5 Newtons of force.
