Eligibility Requirements for Sports Participation
To be eligible for tryouts, students must meet the following requirements prior to the tryout date. Students who do not meet these criteria will not be permitted to participate. Please note: GPA requirements do not apply to incoming sixth-grade students during the first grading period.
Required Documents:
- Middle School Activity Participation Form signed by a legal guardian
- Minimum 2.0 GPA, reviewed at the end of each quarter, along with a positive discipline record and absence from the Hold List
- School Insurance – Click here to purchase school insurance
- Current Sports Physical – valid for 365 days from the date of the physician’s signature
Important Notes:
- All paperwork must be copied and submitted directly to the coach at tryouts. Documents already on file in the school office will not be accepted due to Pinellas County regulations and liability policies.
- Once submitted, paperwork will be kept on file for the school year and will apply to all sports. You do not need to resubmit for each tryout.
Team Selection and Playing Time
Clearwater Fundamental Middle School competes in a county-wide league. While we encourage participation, playing time is not guaranteed. Coaches determine playing time based on practice performance, game readiness, and team needs.
Sports Offered & Seasonal Timeline
Each sport fields one boys’ and one girls’ team, selected from grades 6–8.
- Volleyball: August – October
- Cross Country: August – October
- Track: February – April
- Flag Football: March – May
Transportation for Away Games
Pinellas County does not provide bus transportation for away games. We rely on parent volunteers to transport athletes to and from game sites.
- After away games, students must be picked up directly from the game site. Coaches are only required to remain for 30 minutes after the event ends.
- Parents who wish to drive students other than their own must be Level II cleared, which includes fingerprinting and a background check. This process takes approximately three weeks and is handled by a third-party provider.
- For information on Level II clearance, visit www.pcsb.org. Forms for volunteering and driving are available in the front office.
- If you are only driving your own child, Level II clearance and forms are not required.
We recommend completing Level II clearance before the school year begins if you plan to drive for early-season sports like volleyball.
