Dress code
Dressing for Success
________________________________________________
The PCS dress code is posted on the district web page and in the Student Code of Conduct.
The dress code policy states:
- Clothing must cover all undergarments
- Clothing must cover mid-riff
- See-through, revealing, or mesh garments must not be worn without appropriate coverage underneath that meets the minimum requirements of this dress code
- Shirts should have sleeves which cover the shoulder and arm pit area.
- Clothing must cover the body from one armpit across to the other armpit and down to mid-thigh. Rips, holes, or tears must be below mid-thigh. (*Tech High does not permit dresses or skirts)
- Form fitting leotard/spandex type clothing is not allowed unless proper outer garments cover to mid-thigh length or longer.
- Clothing must not contain messages about topics such as drugs, gangs, weapons, or messages/images of hate toward any group.
- No pajamas or sleepwear and no costumes.
(For the complete list of the dress code policy, please see the PCS Student Code of Conduct, https://www.pcsb.org/dresscode).
This code also permits the school’s principal to add to these requirements. Here are the requirements in addition to the PCS policy per program:
PROFESSIONAL DRESS
Richard O. Jacobson Technical High School has implemented a professional dress code requirement for each program based on industry standards and safety.
- All students are prohibited from wearing skirts or dresses.
- Shoes must be closed-toed. No flip-flops, slides, or bedroom slippers.
- All students are prohibited from wearing pants or shorts with holes, rips or distressed fabric above mid-thigh.
- Hats may be worn outdoors. If any staff member directs a student to remove their hat inside the classroom or building the student will be expected to comply.
- Hoodies may be worn, but if any staff member directs a student to take their hood down the student will be expected to comply.
Students are expected to meet the program-required dress code for the ENTIRE school day, not just during their program class. If a student is out of the dress code, they will be expected to turn in their phone to the front office so they can borrow appropriate clothing to meet dress code expectations for the day. Their phone will be returned to them at the end of the day when they return the borrowed article(s) of clothing.

Students in the Veterinary Program are recommended to purchase a pair of boots or galoshes that can withstand mud, water and animal waste. You should look for something that goes over the ankle area. We recommend an inexpensive boot that can be hosed off and put into a locker. Write your name on or in your boots. The Veterinary Program is the only program with storage lockers for students.
Financial Needs
Please communicate to the school if you need financial assistance with clothing or school supplies. We have a budget to assist families in need with these items. The request form is online under our Parent Resources page. Completed request forms can be submitted in the front office or scanned and emailed to the principal for approval.
We are fortunate to have a great non-profit in Pinellas County which helps with one week’s school clothes for school-aged children. Clothes for Kids has two locations in Pinellas County – one in Clearwater and one in St. Petersburg. (Click here) to be directed to our web page with locations and contact numbers. I believe this program requires a copy of the free/reduced lunch form to verify financial need. For assistance with a copy of your free or reduced meals letter, contact Susie Zufall - zufalls@pcsb.org or 727-547-7151

Dress Code Violations
If a student is out of dress code, they will be expected to turn in their phone to the front office so they can borrow appropriate clothing to meet dress code expectations for the day. Their phone will be returned to them at the end of the day when they return the borrowed article(s) of clothing. We normally send an email to parents informing them of the violation. Repeat offenses may be referred to our administration.

Appearance
For everyone’s comfort, please maintain consistent hygiene routines, which include showering daily, washing hair regularly, brushing your teeth and putting on deodorant EVERY day before school, as well as wearing clean clothes (jackets and hoodies that are worn frequently should be washed at least once a week).
Some of our staff and students are “scent-sensitive”, so we ask students to refrain from wearing heavy scents like perfumes and colognes and students should not apply aerosol sprays (AXE or other body sprays of any kind) at school. When sprayed in a confined space, they can cause some people to experience breathing issues or even an asthma attack.
Tech High School does not permit extreme makeup. Students wearing extreme makeup may be requested to remove the makeup and wash their face before attending class.
Young women should consider having an emergency bag in their backpack which contains feminine hygiene products. We have emergency feminine products available in the clinic if necessary.
We are here to help. There is a bookcase in the front office with donations of deodorants, shampoos, toothbrushes, and other personal hygiene products. There are also donated school supplies available for students in need.
If you look good
and you smell good -
you will feel good!
