Veterinary Assisting
-
The mission and goal of the Veterinary Assisting Academy
at Richard O. Jacobson Technical High School is
career readiness through real-world projects, work-based experiences,
and industry certification by graduation.
Students in this program will work directly with LIVE animals – horses, cattle, goats, pigs, rabbits, birds, dogs, and cats which live on our campus. Veterinary classes are in our new Vet Science building, which provides direct experience with our large and small animals.
Students will learn about anatomy, disease prevention, surgical assisting, and grooming. All students are required to earn 250 hours working at local animal treatment centers.
Our students have the opportunity to compete at the Florida State Fair; participate in FFA and graduates may earn their Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA).
Industry Certifications:
- CVA – Certified Veterinary Assistant (by FVMA – Florida Veterinary Medical Association)
