Dr. Grego takes the helm as president of state superintendents’ organization
July 23, 2020
Superintendent Dr. Michael Grego was installed as the 2020-2021 president of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents (FADSS). The gavel change occurred during FADSS’ July board of directors' virtual planning meeting.
The slate of officers was presented by Kurt Browning, Pasco County’s superintendent, and FADSS outgoing president. Citrus County Schools Superintendent and President-Elect Sam Himmel installed all the officers.
“I am humbled and honored to serve as president of FADSS, and I consider it a privilege to serve alongside such a stellar group of education leaders on the 2020-2021 FADSS board,” Dr. Grego said. “Having a strong state superintendent association is even more critical now as we all work together to adjust to this unprecedented paradigm shift in education.”
FADSS CEO Sen. Bill Montford noted that public schools are the cornerstone of every community, and the current COVID-19 crisis has certainly shone a light upon the critical roles that public schools play in the lives of students, their families, and communities.
“I am confident Florida superintendents will successfully meet these challenges head-on under the leadership of Dr. Grego as FADSS president,” Sen. Montford said.
FADSS membership is comprised of Florida’s 67 district school superintendents. The organization’s mission is to assist and support district school superintendents as the chief advocate for Florida’s public school system in their role of ensuring every student has access to a high-quality public education system.
Superintendent Browning was recognized by Sen. Montford for his leadership and contributions to the association.
“I want to acknowledge the leadership of Supt. Browning this past year as FADSS president and his priority on elevating the conversation around academics, with a focus on providing engaging classroom instruction and standards-aligned instructional materials,” Sen. Montford said. “This laser-focus on FADSS mission of addressing the academic needs of our students and how we, as an organization, will help meet the challenges of attaining higher student achievement, will no doubt continue under the leadership of Dr. Grego.”
