Gibbs High seniors win statewide visual arts scholarships

Four Gibbs High seniors were named scholarship winners in the Foundation for Excellence in Education’s 17th annual 2016 Arts for Life! contest. Justin Lundmark, Mallory Lundquist, Shelby Pogue and Tatsiana Wilson were winners in the visual arts category.

Scholars were selected from more than 650 applicants from 45 counties across Florida. Students in public, magnet, charter, virtual, private schools, as well as home education programs competed for the award. The 25 winners from across the state will receive $2,000 cash scholarships. They will also be recognized at an awards luncheon in Miami next week.

The scholarship winners were selected by a committee of respected experts in one of the scholarship’s five disciplines of creative writing, dance, drama, music or visual art.

Former First Lady of Florida Columba Bush established Arts for Life! in 1999 to recognize the creativity and artistic talents of Florida’s high school students.
