Dunedin Highland Middle School’s Pipe Band Places at Highland Games
April 14, 2017 - Dunedin Highland Middle School’s Pipe Band won third place at the April 1 Dunedin Highland Games & Festival, the last event of the school’s competition season.
The Dunedin Highland Middle School Pipe Band was one of nine adult bands that competed during the event. Several of the students also competed individually, such as Michael Craven, who won first place for Scottish drumming. Many of the school’s other drummers, pipers and Highland dancers also placed.
Nearly 1,000 competitors were present at the annual event, which celebrates Scottish heritage through Highland Dancing, pipping and drumming, and culturally significant food and games. One of the main components of the games is a parade in downtown Dunedin that heralds hundreds of spectators each year.
