Students help recycle 145 tons of paper

The Plant Operations department partnered with Recycling Services of Florida to encourage students to increase recycling at their schools. Over four months, students helped recycle 145 tons of paper.

According to the EPA, paper recycling:
  • Reduces greenhouse gas emissions
  • Saves considerable landfill space.
  • Reduces energy and water consumption.
Every ton of paper made from recycled paper saves up to 17 trees, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Schools placing first, second and third place were awarded prizes provided by Recycling Services of Florida. Congratulations to the top schools:
 
1st Place Winners ($100 prize)
  • High School – Dixie Hollins (5.84 tons)
  • Middle School – Seminole (5.09 tons)
  • Elementary School – Bauder (6.52 tons)
2nd Place Winners ($75 prize)
  • High School – East Lake (3.46 tons)
  • Middle School – Meadowlawn (3.84 tons)
  • Elementary School – Lynch (4.13 tons)
3rd Place Winners ($50 prize)
  • High School – Countryside (3.37 tons)
  • Middle School – Palm Harbor (3.12 tons)
  • Elementary School – Ponce de Leon (2.95 tons)

  • Northeast High School (3.22 tons)
  • Pinellas Park Middle School (3.06 tons)
  • Tarpon Springs Elementary School (2.79 tons)
