Lakewood High senior wins Congressional App Challenge
Dec. 1, 2017
Lakewood High senior Katie McGilvery recently won the Congressional App Challenge.
McGilvery created an app that will help people discover what is happening in St. Petersburg. Users of the App, named DownTown, monitor weather and traffic and can filter the information based on their interests.
The Congressional App Challenge is a public effort to encourage students to learn how to code through annual districtwide competitions hosted by Members of Congress for their district. Students in participating districts code original applications for the chance to be selected for recognition by their Member of Congress, win prizes, and have their work put on display in the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
Congressman Charlie Crist congratulated McGilvery during a phone call.
