National recognition for Melrose Elementary newspaper
May 21, 2018
The Manatee Messenger, the newspaper produced by students in Melrose Elementary Center for Journalism and Multimedia program, received a 2018 first place award from the American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA). The ASPA ranks the scholastic journalism work of schools through college. Judges remarked on the quality of the Manatee Messenger, saying that the newspaper “holds up and is better than many of its high school counterparts.” They said that “It is very remarkable that you have a newspaper of this quality on the elementary school level.”
The judges also praised the school’s partnership with the Tampa Bay Times.
