Cypress Woods student wins national Sandy Hook Promise essay contest

Aleeza Saiyad, a fifth-grade student at Cypress Woods Elementary, won first place in the Sandy Hook Promise Student Voices contest.
Students were asked to write about ways to prevent bullying and make their peers feel more included.
Aleeza wrote about two students from Syria forming a bond at their new school.
More than 1,300 students submitted essays for the competition. Aleeza will be recognized during Sandy Hook Promise’s 2019 Students Against Violence Everywhere Promise Club Summit in Charlotte, North Carolina.
