Lakewood High students win cyber innovation award

Dec. 4, 2018

Lakewood High School’s Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association/Cyber Fortress team won first place in an innovation competition at SOFWERX Headquarters in Tampa.  The teams from each school had to come up with a design for a dog mask that would supply consistent oxygen during a 35,000-foot drop. This competition mimicked the actual innovation process that SOFWERX employees when they are tasked with a big project. Countryside, Osceola and St. Petersburg schools also participated.

While at SOFTWERX, Lakewood High students explored the workspaces, spoke with the employees and learned about a few of the projects that are currently being developed. SOFTWERX, in conjunction with USSOCOM, is a public facing intermediary to assist with collaboration, innovation, prototyping and exploration with industry, labs and academic partners.
