PCS has launched Pinellas County Schools en Español, a new Facebook page for our Spanish-speaking community.

The school district has a growing population of Hispanic families and is committed to keeping them informed about educational resources and important events. The new Facebook page is part of overall efforts to improve achievement for our English learners and enhance communication with students and their families.

Approximately 18 percent of students in the school district identify as Hispanic. The percentage of Spanish-speaking English learners is 63 percent.

Facebook is a popular platform for Hispanic families to communicate with extended families in their native countries, said Dr. Natasa Karac, director of the district’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) department.

“It is a way to stay connected to their native culture, while keeping up-to-date with family,” she said.

Pinellas County Schools en Español echoes the district’s original Facebook page, and features additional information and events to support Hispanic families.
