Dr. Grego honored as Florida Music Education Association Superintendent of the Year

Dr. Grego received the 2019 FMEA Superintendent of the Year Award during the FMEA Professional Development Clinic/Conference at the Tampa Bay Convention Center today, Jan. 11, 2019.
The FMEA Superintendent of the Year Award is presented to the Florida school district superintendent who is not a professional music educator but has displayed ardent support of the district’s school music programs. This award recognizes leadership, excellence in encouragement and promotion of music education in Florida schools.
At the Awards Breakfast, FMEA also recognized Katherine Reynard of John M. Sexton Elementary School with the 2019 Music Education Service Award. This award is given to music educators who have been active in music education for 25 years or more. Reynard has been a music educator for 31 years. Thurgood Marshall Fundamental and Clearwater Fundamental middle schools received the Music Enrollment Award for demonstrating high enrollment in music courses.
Since he joined Pinellas County Schools, Dr. Grego has been keenly focused on the role arts education has on closing the achievement gap. The district's strong music programs have earned many national recognitions. PCS was also awarded a federal Professional Development in Arts Education grant to service ten high poverty schools. Dr. Grego firmly believes that music education is a core part of the curriculum.
Dr. Grego has received state and national recognition for his well-rounded philosophy and leadership abilities. In 2017, he was named the Florida Art Education Association Superintendent of the Year and was named Superintendent of the Year by the National School Foundation Association. More recently, he was named the 2018 Florida Superintendent of the Year and was also chosen as the Florida Association for Career and Technical Education Superintendent of the Year. Dr. Grego received the first-ever FMEA Superintendent of the Year Award in 2010 for his work as the School District of Osceola County Superintendent.
Katherine Reynard was presented with the Music Education Service Award.
Clearwater Fundamental Middle School was presented the Music Enrollment Award.
Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle was presented the Music Enrollment Award.
